Abstract

The invention is a two-part clip (10) for the purpose of securely holding fabric or sheet material (16) without damaging said material. The clip consists of a U-shaped body (10) with an angled cavity and a wedge (12), which is angled to fit snugly into the cavity. An additional component of the invention is a section of rope (14), which is passed through a hole (13), first in the wedge, then through a hole (11) in the body of the clip. The fabric (16) to be secured inserted into the cavity on either the top or the bottom of the wedge. As tension is applied to the rope, the wedge becomes firmly seated in the cavity, thus securing the fabric.

Description

CLAMPS FOR HOLDING A LEAF-SHAPED MATERIAL Field of the Invention The present invention relates to tweezers for the purpose of fastening fabrics or fabrics.
Background of the Invention There is a need for grippers for sheet material where the jaws or clamping surface of the clips do not cause a deformity in the material. This need is particularly salient for slippery, thin vinyl. The current method for fixing or securing waxed materials, flags, signs, etc., is to install metal eyelets which weaken the fabric and it is often impractical to replace corroded or rusted metal eyelets.
Brief Description of the Invention The present invention is a two-piece clamp that uses an angle / cuff principle. A wedge Ref.030595 tapered and a corresponding angled cavity comprise the two parts of the clamps. The material to be fixed or secured is placed on any wide surface of the cuff and then inserted into the body cavity of the clamps. In one version the wedge is held in place by tension on a rope which is placed through a hole in the wedge, then through a hole in the body of the clamps. A knot or brace on the rope at the end of the wedge prevents it from being pulled completely. In an alternative version, a raised ridge on the wedge is fixed in a corresponding notch or slit in the body of the clamps. An extended lug with a hole in the back surface of the clamps provides a method of securing.
Brief Description of the Drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of the clamps, the wedge and the rope; Figure 2 is a side view showing the position of the material to be fastened; Figure 3 is a front view showing the position of the holes; Figure 4 is an end view showing the lugs for facilitated removal; Figure 5 is a plan view of the clamps and the wedge; Figure 6 is a perspective view of the alternative version equipped with a fastening flange, the notch and the securing lug; Figure 7 shows the wedge fully seated in the body of the clamps; and Figures 8A, 8B, 9A, 9B are alternatives for design purposes only.
Detailed Description of the Drawings Figure 2 shows the clamps 10 with the rope in position through the hole 11 and through the hole 13 (See Figure 3) in the wedge 12 and knotted 15 to prevent it from being pulled out completely. The material 16 that is to be secured is in its position. By keeping the clamps 10 and the material 16 stationary, a pulling force is exerted on the rope 14 moving away from the clamps 10 by stretching the wedge towards the angled cavity, firmly securing the material 16. Indeed, the stronger the pulling on the string 14, the firmer will be held on the fabric 16. Figure 4 shows the wedge 12 from the narrow end showing the extended lugs 17, to facilitate the removal. Figure 5- shows a plan view of the clamps 10 and the wedge 12 with the lugs 17 extended. Figure 6 shows the alternative version, which has an added flange 18 on the wedge 12 and which corresponds to the notch 19 on the internal surface of the clamps 10. This flange 18 and the notch 19 fix the assembly in place making unnecessary the tension on a rope. This version is equipped with a lug 20 for mounting. Figure 7 shows the wedge 12 fully seated in the body of the clamps 10. Figure 8A is a perspective view of an alternative design for preserving the manufacturing material. Figure 8B is a side view of an alternative design. Figure 9A is a side view of an alternative design. Figure 9B is a side view of an alternative design.
It is noted that in relation to this date, the best method known by the applicant to carry out the aforementioned invention, is the conventional one for the manufacture of the objects to which it relates.
Having described the invention as above, property is claimed as contained in the following

Claims (10)

1. A two-piece clamp assembly, characterized in that it comprises a one-piece body having an angled cavity with laterally open sides, a one-piece angled wedge to be inserted into the angled cavity of the clamp body, the wedge and the body of the tweezers each have a hole through which a length of the string is strung and knotted, so that when a tension is applied to the string, the wedge becomes more firmly seated in the body of the tweezers .
2. The clip assembly according to claim 1, characterized in that a rod is replaced by the cord.
3. The clamp assembly according to claim 1, characterized in that the wedge has a flange, and the angled surface of the clamp body has a corresponding notch, the flange and the notch provide a tight fitting interfit function to reduce the confidence of tension on the rope.
4. The clamp assembly according to claim 1, characterized in that a mounting lug is molded in the back part of the clamp body.
5. The clamp assembly according to claim 1, characterized in that the wedge is of a reduced dimension to allow the clamping of the material of an increased thickness.
6. The clip assembly according to claim 1, characterized in that the body and the wedge are made of a plastic compound.
7. The clip assembly according to claim 1, characterized in that the body and the wedge are made of metal.
8. A two-piece clamp assembly for holding sheet material, characterized in that it comprises a one-piece body having an angled cavity with laterally open sides, a one-piece angled wedge that is fitted in the angled cavity of the body, the wedge and the body have holes aligned therein through which a single strand of the rope is threaded and knotted at one end, so that when the tension is applied to the rope, the wedge becomes more firmly seated in the body of the clamps, and a sheet of material retained between the body and the wedge.
9. The two-piece clamp assembly according to claim 2, characterized in that the wedge has a width greater than the width of the body between the open sides to facilitate the clamping of the wedge for removal purposes.
10. The assembly of two-piece clamps according to claim 9, characterized in that the body has a notch, and the wedge has a protrusion for fitting snugly in the notch to releasably hold the wedge and the body together.
