Description
BACKPACK WITH INTEGRATED GARMENT
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
This invention relates generally to backpacks useful for transporting supplies of all kinds. More particularly, the present invention relates to backpacks adapted to carry a garment for the upper body such as a jacket. Backpacks are manufactured in a variety of sizes and styles, with a wide variety of different features to suit the needs and desires of many people. The smaller backpacks, known as backpacks for everyday use, are typically made without internal or external frames, and serve as carriers of books for students, to store supplies for hikers and the like. Often, the need for a jacket or sweatshirt occurs by itself, that is, when it rains or when the temperature drops. Typically, a jacket or other protective garment is placed in the backpack, if there is enough space, or if it is carried in the hand. Coupling of a backpack to a garment for the upper body is known, for example, see U.S. Pat. No. 4,949,401 to Kimsey, Jr. However, the confined storage of the garment integrally with the backpack without reducing the storage capacity of the backpack is not known in the prior art.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The main object of this invention is to provide a backpack / garment combination for the upper body where the jacket is available when required and otherwise included in the backpack. Another object of the invention is to provide a backpack with an integral jacket through which the jacket can be removed and placed on the hiker's body without removing the backpack, and without restricting access to the compartments of the backpack. Another object of the invention is to manufacture an integral backpack / garment using a commercially available backpack and a commercially available upper body garment. Another object of the invention is to provide a backpack / integral garment of an existing backpack, without sacrificing any space in the backpack to store the garment. Another object of the invention is to provide a backpack with an integral garment for the upper part of the body, even removable to allow independent and separate use of the backpack and the garment. A backpack is provided that has a backward facing portion including at least one compartment, and a front facing portion including shoulder straps. The portion facing towards the back engages, either reversibly or permanently, to the rear face of the back panel of a garment for the upper body. The front facing portion can be reversibly or permanently attached to the front face of the back panel of the upper body garment. A garment that holds the compartment is formed by two members, one adjacent to the front face of the garment and the other adjacent to the back face of the garment. Each half of the garment fastened to a compartment is substantially circumferential around the backpack. The two members of the compartment can be joined by a closure device such as a zipper or zippers, sailcloth adhesion pads, snaps or other devices for closing a garment rolled thereon. These and other objects and advantages of the invention will be readily understood upon reading the following description together with the accompanying drawings, wherein like reference numerals have been applied to design like elements in various views.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED MODALITIES
In order to better illustrate the invention in the drawings, the components of the backpack / garment for the upper part of the total integral body 10, except where specifically stated otherwise, are described as being essentially coupled in the mirror symmetry approximately vertical , medium, longitudinal plane 12. Accordingly, a description of the parts on one side also serves to identify the parts on the opposite side. However, this is not intended to limit the invention in any way to a symmetric configuration. In Figure 1, a backpack / garment for the integral upper body part 10 are shown as a part including a backpack assembly 14 and an illustrative upper body garment 16, i.e. a jacket with a zipper 17. The garment 16 can be folded on the left side 20 including the sleeve 38, the right side 22 including the right sleeve 40, the top part 24 including the body 42 with closure, and the bottom part 26, all folded toward in towards the center of assembly 14 of the backpack. The back panel 52 of the garment 16 extends substantially circumferentially around the compartment 28 of the garment and joins, as best illustrated, between a back panel 30 of the backpack and the front panel 32, the latter being visible in the Figure 2. When the garment 16 is folded from all directions towards the compartment 28 of the garment, the closure of the compartment confines the garment inside the ringed compartment. The inner periphery 37 of the back wall 62 of the garment compartment generally abuts the outer periphery 36 of the back pack assembly 14, and generally conforms to the exterior of the back pack assembly, even if no rectangle has been shown . A garment compartment closure 50 is shown in Figure 3, surrounding the outer periphery 51 of the garment compartment 28, and may comprise a snap closure, snaps, hook-and-loop fastener pads, and / or other Clasp type. The compartment 28 of the garment can be opened, even without removing the shoulders of the person, and the garment extended for immediate use. In Figure 1 an illustrative configuration of a backpack assembly 14 with at least one storage compartment 34 is shown, illustrated herein as a plurality of later storage compartments designated by 34A, 34B and 34C. The rear assembly 14 of the backpack may also include elastic pressure buttons 44, cords 46, bottle holder 48, and / or other backpack accessories useful for a user of the backpack, such as bottle covers, water bottles, waist packs, keyrings , hoops for mountain climbers' peaks and the like. The backpack / garment for the upper part of the integral body 10 can be formed with a permanent coupling such as sealing along or on either side of the outer periphery 36 and / or internal periphery 68. Alternatively, in another version, the back assembly 14 of the rucksack and / or backpack 14 assembly can be removable from the garment 16 for independent use. The permanently coupled version will be described. As illustrated in Figure 2, the anterior assembly 18 of the backpack is mounted on the front face 56 of the back panel 52 of the garment, and includes snaps 58 for shoulders with pad 60, by which the weight of the assembly 14 backpack and its contents can be supported on the shoulders of the user. The anterior assembly 18 of the backpack also includes a compartment wall 64 of the anterior garment which can be attached by a closure 50, previously described, to the wall 62 of the rear garment compartment when garment 16 is folded in the space between the two walls 62 and 64. A front panel 32, typically of cloth, is shown as a cover of the front face 56 and is attached to the inner periphery 68 of the wall 64 of the compartment of the previous garment. Typically, the front panel 32 generally conforms to the size and shape of the back panel 30, the two covers of opposite sides of the same area of the garment. The closure 50 may be a closure, sail-fixing hook-and-loop pads, snaps, or other type of closure, but it is preferred to use a closure or elongated strips of Velero hook-and-loop fastener material. Although the invention is shown with a front panel 32 covering the front face 56 of the back part 52 of the garment, the front panel 32 can be omitted in some situations. Figures 3 and 4 illustrate the invention with the garment 16 rolled or folded inside the circumferential compartment 28 of the garment. The backpack assembly of Figure 13 is shown with a mesh compartment 34A, a second compartment 34B with zipper 70, and a third compartment 34C with zipper 72. The cords 42 are joined with a clamp 74. The circumferential compartment 28 of the garment is formed from a front wall 64 located in front of the back panel 52 of the garment (see Figures 1 and 2), and a back wall 62 positioned in the back of the back panel of the garment; the two walls 62, 64 are in the preferred embodiment being substantially mirror images of each other, and are joined with a rack 50 along their outer periphery 51. The inner periphery 68 of the rear wall 62 of the compartment 28 of the garment is attached to the rear 14 assembly of the backpack. A closure 50 comprises two zippers 76 that are located around the outer periphery 51 of the garment compartment 28, or one on each side of the backpack assembly 14. Each rack 76 with a handle 78 is shown operating between an open stop 80 on the bottom of the backpack and a stop 82 closed at the top of the backpack. Alternatively, the Velero hook and loop fastener material adhesion strips, or other closure devices may be used in place of the zippers 76. A garment 16 is shown rolled or folded within the circumferential compartment 28 of the garment abutting the garment. assemble 14 from the back of the backpack on your peripheral line 36. The width 84 of the garment compartment 28 only needs to be wide enough to allow the rolled garment 16 to engage thereto and the zipper 50 closed. Typically, the vertical side portions will be wider than the upper and lower portions of the garment compartment 28 due to the larger garment portions that must be attached thereto.
Figure 4 shows the anterior assembly 18 of the backpack and the garment compartment surrounding the anterior wall 64. The anterior assembly 18 includes a pair of shoulder straps 58 with pads 60 attached to the shoulders. The upper ends 86 of the shoulder straps 58 engage the upper portion of the anterior assembly 18, and the lower ends 88 engage the portions 90 of the lower edge of the anterior assembly. The shoulder straps 58 are shown with clasps 92. The above assembly 18 is also shown with a net total length of the container 94. The top closure 100 is shown with surfaces 96, 98 of adhesion of hook fastening material and Sailboat hoop opposite, and handles 102 to open the closure. Alternatively, a zipper, snap or other closure device may be used in place of the surfaces 96, 98 of the Velero hook and hoop attachment material. Like the back wall 62, the anterior wall 64 of the circumferential compartment 28 of the garment has its inner periphery 68 attached to the pack assembly. Its outer periphery 51 has a pair of zippers 76 which engage the zippers 76 in the back wall 62. When the zippers 76, 76 of both walls 62, 64 are joined and placed in a closer position, the garment 16 rolled up it is confined within the circumferential compartment 28 of the garment where it is prevented from becoming soiled or moistened.
Referring now to Figure 5, the construction of an exemplary piece, ie, permanently attached to the integral backpack / garment 10 is shown in scanned cross section. The larger portions, including the compartment walls 62, 64 of the garment, net compartment 94, front panel 32, back garment panel 52, back panel 30, elasticized belt 48, rear net compartment 34A, second rear compartment 106 of the compartment 34B, compartment 34B, and cord 46 are shown when joined through long stitches 104A, 104B. It should be noted that the stitches 104A and 104B are actually the same stitch that is circumferential around the backpack / garment 10. The walls 62, 64 are shown as they include a fold 114 to increase the strength along the stitches 104A 104B. Secondary stitches include stitches 108 for attaching the upper ends of the shoulder straps 58 to the front and rear panels 32, 30. Secondary stitches 110 attach an intermediate portion of elasticized tape 48 to the rear panel 30. Secondary stitches 112 attach a third compartment 34C to the second compartment 34B. The construction of a three-part removable backpack / garment 10 is illustrated in Figure C. In this embodiment, the anterior assembly 18 of the backpack or the backpack assembly 14, or both, can be removed from the garment 16 The anterior assembly 18 of the backpack and the back assembly 14 of the backpack can be attached for independent use of the garment 16, and the garment can be used separately. As shown in Figure 6, an anterior panel 32A is an integral central portion of the wall 64 of the anterior compartment and comprises a single member. Likewise, the rear panel 30A is an integral central portion of the wall 62 of the rear compartment and comprises a single member. The pads 120, 122 of hook fastening material and Velero adhesion ring are attached to the front face 56 and back face 54, respectively, of the garment of the back panel 52 when sewing along the stitches 118. Preferably, the pad 120 has a rim surface and the pad 122 having a hook surface. In this way, the garment 16 with pad 120, 122 of attached Velero hook and hoop fastening material can be used separately or combined with the previous assembly 18 of the backpack and / or the assembly. 14 back of the backpack to form a complete backpack / garment 10 complete with an integral garment compartment 28. A pad 124 of Velero hook and loop fastening material engages the back face of the front panel 32A when sewing along the stitches 126. The upper ends of the shoulder straps 58 are attached to the pad 124 combined with and panel 32A along stitches 128. Sailboat hook and loop fastening material pad 124 is configured to reversibly couple pad 120 of sail hook and hoop fastening material and adhere thereto. A pad 130 of sail hook and loop fastening material is shown attached to the front face of the rear panel 30A along the stitches 132, and is configured to reversibly couple the pad 122 of Velero hook and hoop fastening material and adhere thereto. The components of the backpack represented by the compartments 34B and 34C and cord 46 are attached to the rear panel 30A along the same or other stitches, including the stitches 112. When joined by firing, the rear assembly 14 of the backpack includes the rear wall 62 of the compartment 28 of the garment. A removable 3-piece backpack / garment 10 can also be formed where the anterior assembly 18 and / or back assembly 14 are attached to the garment 16 with zippers, snaps or other connecting devices. As shown in Figure 7, where both assemblies 14, 18 can be removed from the garment 16, the coupling zips are used on each side of the rear panel 52 of the garment. Each zipper is shown with a coupling strap 138, and in addition, forcing belts, not shown, may be added if desired. The rack 134 has two halves 134A and 134B. The second half, the zipper 134A and the first half, the zipper 136A engages the front face 56 and rear face 54, respectively, of the rear panel 52 of the garment along the stitches 140 to project into the circumferential compartment 28 of the garment formed by the walls 62 and 64. Similarly, the fourth half, the rack 134B and the third half, the zipper 136B are attached to the front panel 32A and the rear panel 34A, respectively, along the stitches 142 to face the halves, the zippers 134A and 136A, respectively, within the compartment 28 of the garment. The half of the zipper 134A can be attached to the other half, the zipper 134B, to attach the anterior assembly 18 of the backpack to the garment 16. Similarly, the half of the zipper 136A can be attached to the other half of the zipper. the zipper 136B for attaching the back assembly 14 of the backpack to the garment 16. Both zippers 134 and 136 are inside the front wall 64 and the back wall 62 of the circumferential compartment 28 of the garment, which is generally not visible . If desired, each of the zippers 134, 136 can be replaced by a pair of shorter zippers, typically one on each side of the backpack / garment 10. Figure 8 is a rear view of the garment 16 described in the figure 7, showing two halves, the racks 136A, 136A coupled by firing along the stitches 140 to the back panel 52 of the garment. The two halves of the zippers generally delineate the "footprint" 144 of the rear assembly 18 of the backpack, and each half rack is mounted between an open stop 146 and a closed stop 148. The front face 56 (not visible) of the rear panel 52 of the garment, will have a similar appearance, include a pair of zipper halves 134A mounted thereon. The imaginary line 150 traces the outline of the circumferential compartment 28 of the garment with the back assembly 14 of the backpack is mounted on the garment 16. The portion 154 of the rear face 54 of the rear panel 52 of the garment that is within the circuit 152 of the zipper halves 136A may, if desired, be visually enhanced with art or writing. The materials with which the back panels are made are those that are useful in the art. The fabrics may be formed of nylon or polyester, or mixtures thereof, or may be coated with PVC or polyurethane, for example, to provide water resistance. Skin or similar materials to the skin can also be used. However, this invention is not limited to any particular material. It is evident that various modifications can be made to the constructions shown in the figures, by means of which storage compartments 34 can be added or subtracted, additional stitches can be added to increase the resistance, panel size may vary, reinforcement belts or aggregate panels, etc. These changes may not be illustrated in the drawings, but they enter into the knowledge of the technique. It is emphasized that the particular configuration of the backpack shown in the drawings is merely illustrative of the major principle of the invention, i.e., a separate backpack attached or that can be attached to the front or rear surfaces of the back panel of an intermediate garment for the upper part of the body in a "sandwich" arrangement. Almost no combination of the design of the backpack and the upper body garment 16 can be used, since the dimensions of the backpack adapt to the size of the garment, the circumferential compartment of the garment 28 is provided to retain the garment rolled or folded. It should be noted that different garments 16 and various configurations of the backpack can be used in various combinations to achieve the desired capacity of the backpack, type of garment, and size. In this way, the garment 16 can be a jacket, vest, sweatshirt, shirt, shirt, denim jacket, denim shirt or other type of upper body garment having an open or open front. A plurality of garments of different styles and sizes, and a plurality of backpack front assemblies and backpack assemblies having different sizes and configurations can be interchangeably joined for custom application.
The invention is also useful for shorter excursions, that is, up to a few days. When used for rental services of sports equipment, interchangeability allows adaptation to the size and wishes of the client, climate, etc. In addition, a higher garment will always be provided for substantial numbers of hikers, cyclists or others who may underestimate the need for clothing in inclement weather. It is envisioned that various changes and modifications may be made to the construction, coupling, operation and construction method of the backpack / garment for the integral upper body part described herein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the following claims.
