Abstract

La invencion describe el uso, para promover crecimiento neural in vivo en el sistema nervioso central de un mamífero, de una molécula de adhesion de célula neural que puede superar señales moleculares inhibidoras encontradas sobre células gliales y mielina, para preparar composiciones para promover el crecimiento neural; también describe fragmentos, cognados, cogéneres, imitadores, análogos, células secretoras y moléculas solubles activas de la misma, así como anticuerpos para la misma, y moléculas de ADN, vectores y células transformadas capaces de expresarla; la invencion incluye también líneas de raton transgénico que expresan una molécula de adhesion neural en astrocitos diferenciados, y células y tejidos derivados de los mismos; la expresion de la molécula de adhesion neural mejora el crecimiento de neurita sobre tejido de sistema nervioso central derivado de estos ratones transgénicos; la invencion también describe el uso de las mismas para mejorar el crecimiento neuronal de neuronas de SNC, para mejorar la memoria y para aumentar la eficacia sináptica; también se describen métodos para probar fármacos que modulan los efectos de la molécula de adhesion neural, y sistemas de prueba adecuados para estos métodos.
