Abstract
Un dispositivo de insercion de catéter (10) tiene un estilete (12) con una aguja (14) que se extiende desde el mismo. Un catéter (16) tiene una cánula (20) que rodea a la aguja (14), y un cubo de conexion (22) soportado sobre un miembro de alineacion (24) en el frente del estilete (12). Un resorte (44) ejerce una fuerza hacia atrás sobre la aguja (14). Un miembro de retencion de aguja (14) que tiene un mecanismo de traba liberable, se coloca adentro del estilete (12) para contrarrestar la fuerza hacia atrás del resorte (44), y detener la aguja en la posicion extendida. Después de la insercion del catéter (16) adentro de un vaso sanguíneo de un paciente, se aplica una fuerza previamente determinada a un miembro accionador (64) que sobresale desde la partes posterior del estilete (12). El miembro accionador (64) libera al mecanismo de traba, y se propulsa la aguja (14) mediante el resorte (44) para ser permanentemente retenida adentro de una cavidad interna (72) del estilete (12).
