Abstract
La presente invencion proporciona la secuencia de ADNc completa de acetil CoA carboxilasa del maíz y métodos para conferir tolerancia herbicida y/o alterar el contenido de aceite de plantas introduciendo y expresando un gen de acetil CoA carboxilasa de planta en células de la planta. El método para impartir tolerancia herbicida a una planta incluye los pasos de introducir una cinta de expresion que codifica una acetil CoA carboxilasa de planta o una secuencia de ADN antisentido complementaria a la secuencia para un gen de acetil CoA carboxilasa de planta operativamente unido a un promotor funcional en células de planta, en las células de tejido de planta y que expresa el gen de acetil CoA carboxilasa de planta en una cantidad efectiva para hacer la acetil CoA carboxilasa y/o célula de planta tolerante a los herbicidas. El método para alterar el contenido de aceite en una planta incluye los pasos de introducir una cinta de expresion en células de plantas y expresar el gen de acetil CoA carboxilasa en una cantidad efectiva para alterar el contenido de aceite de las células.
