Abstract
La presente invención se refiere a procedimiento para la preparación de una composición modificadora de terreno, a partir de sub-productos obtenidos en la producción de dióxido de titanio de ilmenitas o escoria de ilmenitas mediante el procedimiento de sulfato, estando constituídos esencialmente los sub-productos por heptahidratos de sulfato ferroso, caracterizado posr comprender las siguientes etapas: poner en contacto, a una temperatura comprendida entre 20°C y el punto de fusión del heptahidrato de sulfato ferroso, partículas sólidas de los sub-productos con amoníaco gaseoso, para obtener un producto de reacción constituído esencialmente por sulfato amónico y por hidróxido ferroso; someter el producto de reacción de oxidación a una temperatura comprendida entre 20° y 90°C, con oxígeno o un gas que contenga oxigeno molécular, para convertir el hidróxido ferroso en hidróxido férrico; lixiviar con agua, de preferencia a una temperatura entre 60° y 90°C, el producto obtenido en la reacción de oxidación para separar del 85 al 95 por ciento en peso del sulfato amónico en forma de una solución acuosa con un contenido de sulfato amónico en forma de una solución acuosa con un contenido de sulfato amonico de, por lo menos, el 40 por ciento en peso, y separar la solución del sólido residual; y por último, secar el sólido residual hasta un contenido de agua inferior al 20 por ciento en peso, de preferencia de 9 a 18 por ciento en peso.The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of a soil modifying composition, from by-products obtained in the production of titanium dioxide from ilmenites or slag from ilmenites by means of the sulfate process, the by-products being essentially constituted by ferrous sulfate heptahydrates, characterized by comprising the following steps: contacting, at a temperature between 20 ° C and the melting point of ferrous sulfate heptahydrate, solid particles of the by-products with gaseous ammonia, to obtain a reaction product consisting essentially of ammonium sulfate and ferrous hydroxide; subjecting the oxidation reaction product to a temperature comprised between 20 ° and 90 ° C, with oxygen or a gas containing molecular oxygen, to convert ferrous hydroxide to ferric hydroxide; leach with water, preferably at a temperature between 60 ° and 90 ° C, the product obtained in the oxidation reaction to separate 85 to 95 weight percent of ammonium sulfate in the form of an aqueous solution containing ammonium sulfate in the form of an aqueous solution with an ammonium sulfate content of at least 40 percent by weight, and separating the solution from the residual solid; and lastly, drying the residual solid to a water content of less than 20 weight percent, preferably 9 to 18 weight percent.
