Abstract

Una macromolécula comprende un producto polimerizado de anillo abierto de monómeros de ß-lactona de la fórmula I: (ver Fórmula) (I) y que tiene una estructura de la fórmula IA: (ver Fórmula) (IA), en donde R1 es un grupo alquilo que tiene al menos 8 átomos de carbono. La macromolécula puede estar terminada en hidroxi, y se puede copolimerizar con otros monómeros de ß-lactona que tienen diferentes grupos de sustitución y/o con monómeros de lactona superior. La macromolécula se puede usar como un reactivo para formar un polímero terminado en alcoxisilano, un poliuretano o un (co)poliéster, o se puede usar como un bloque medio elastomérico en un copolímero tribloque que tiene bloques de extremo duro, tal como ácido poliláctico. Estos sistemas tribloque demuestran dos regiones discretas que tienen propiedades similares a los copolímeros de bloque de estireno y, por lo tanto, son adecuados para su uso como adhesivos termofusibles o sensibles a la presión. En algunas modalidades, dichos polímeros tribloque pueden ser completamente de origen biológico y compostables.
