Abstract

Un material activo se administra por vía oral a un mamífero sustancialmente a diario, lo que finalmente aumenta la concentración del material activo en la sangre del mamífero hasta una cantidad eficaz para controlar una infestación por pulgas y/o garrapatas del mamífero. Luego se interrumpe la administración oral durante un período de tiempo de al menos un día, pero la concentración de material activo en la sangre del mamífero sigue siendo lo suficientemente alta como para controlar la infestación por pulgas y/o garrapatas. El período de tiempo puede ser de más de tres días o más de siete días. Una vez transcurrido el período de tiempo, se puede reanudar la administración de dosis sustancialmente diarias para continuar manteniendo la concentración de material activo en la sangre del mamífero en una cantidad eficaz para controlar la infestación por pulgas y/o garrapatas. La interrupción de la administración oral puede ocurrir varias veces en el transcurso de un mes o más. También se describe un método para establecer un régimen para administrar un material activo para controlar las infestaciones por pulgas y/o garrapatas en un mamífero usando una dosis que se reduce de la dosis de la etiqueta durante un período de tiempo correspondiente.
