Abstract
Se proporciona un elemento de empaque estructurado de corrugado cruzado para usar en columnas de transferencia de masa o de intercambio de calor. El elemento de empaque tiene una pluralidad de capas de empaque ubicadas en una relación vertical paralela entre sí y que incluye corrugados formados de picos y valles alternantes y paredes laterales de corrugado que se extienden entre los picos y valles. El elemento de empaque incluye, además, una pluralidad de aberturas que presenta, cada una, un área abierta. Las aberturas se distribuyen de tal manera que las paredes laterales de corrugado tienen una mayor densidad de áreas abiertas que cualquier densidad de las áreas abiertas que puedan estar presentes en los picos y valles. Algunas de las aberturas pueden estar presente en los picos y valles para facilitar la distribución de líquido. Las aberturas pueden colocarse, además, en filas u otros patrones que se alinean en una dirección a lo largo de una longitud longitudinal de los corrugados.
