Abstract

La presente invención proporciona un método para recubrir semillas con materiales biológicos tales como bacterias, hongos (por ejemplo, levaduras y mohos), parásitos, vectores recombinantes y virus. El método comprende (a) aplicar un líquido humectante a las semillas para humedecer las semillas, donde el líquido humectante comprende un polímero humectante, y (b) recubrir las semillas humedecidas con una cantidad eficaz de una composición seca, donde la composición seca comprende materiales biológicos, uno o más disacáridos, uno o más oligosacáridos, uno o más polisacáridos, una o más sales de ácidos carboxílicos y una o más proteínas hidrolizadas. Las semillas recubiertas pueden tener una actividad de agua (Aw) inicial inferior a 0.4 y los microorganismos en las semillas recubiertas tienen una viabilidad inicial de al menos 5 log de unidades formadoras de colonias por gramo de semillas (UFC/g de semillas).
