Abstract
Se proporciona un electrodo de referencia el cual está estable sobre un intervalo amplio de temperaturas, presiones y condiciones químicas. El electrodo de referencia objetivo de acuerdo con la presente invención comprende un protector tubular compuesto de cuarzo que tiene un extremo cerrado, distal y un extremo abierto, próximo. Una varilla cerámica aislante se conecta aparentemente a la abertura en el extremo distal cerrado del protector para formar micro-grietas entre la varilla cerámica y el protector de cuarzo (llamada una unión agrietada, CJ). La CJ da una trayectoria muy tortuosa para la conducción de iones desde el interior del electrodo de referencia (RE) a un electrodo de trabajo (WE). Dentro del protector tubular está un conductor eléctrico (por ejemplo, un cable de plata) colocado en un electrolito que comprende una mezcla de sales de metal alcalino (por ejemplo, AgCI y KCI), extendido desde el electrolito hacia arriba hasta un medio de sellado en el extremo próximo del protector de cuarzo.
