Abstract
Los solicitantes ha identificado que tres mediciones fenotípicas/genéticas se correlacionan altamente con la salud del periodo de transición y se pueden utilizar en protocolos de selección y reproducción y/o en combinación con métodos tradicionales de reproducción y de selección asistida por marcador para mejorar la capacidad de predicción de la salud del período de transición. De acuerdo con la invención las evaluaciones genéticas para mastitis, cetosis y metritis se ha encontrado que son altamente predictivas de salud de la transición total. Las evaluaciones genéticas se producen al medir directamente miles de casos clínicos de mastitis, cetosis y metritis en ancestros de un animal particular y al utilizar estos datos en la selección. Los criterios de selección del solicitante impactan rápidamente una población de reproductores al reducir la incidencia de enfermedad de la vaca de la transición en la población inicial y en la progenie.
