Abstract
Esta invención describe un nuevo método para generar semilla híbrida en cualquier planta de cultivo mientras que también reduce la contaminación de cruzamientos exteriores y auto-polinización. En contraste a los métodos de producción de semilla convencionales, el método de la invención no es dependiente del uso de cualquier forma de esterilidad masculina en las plantas de origen o parentales femeninas, ni el uso de distancias de aislamiento de plantas no relacionadas indeseables de la misma especie, ni el uso de plantas de origen masculinas en proximidad a las partes femeninas dirigidas. El proceso involucra el suministro de polen del origen masculino a voluntad, como sea disponible ya sea en un banco de polen preservado, o utilizando la recolección en tiempo real de plantas masculinas a medida que llegan a ser disponibles. El polen deseado se suministra a las partes femeninas fértiles durante el período cuando el polen viable de las partes femeninas y localmente próximo a las plantas no relacionadas no está siendo liberado. El polen masculino suministrado es en tales cantidades y fortuitamente sincronizado que preferencialmente poliniza las partes femeninas y produce semilla híbrida relativamente pura en niveles mucho más altos que si se utilizarán las prácticas de producción híbrida actuales y no se utilizarán las prácticas de esterilidad masculina o las distancias de aislamiento prescritas. Tal sincronización fortuita puede involucrar la aplicación intencional de polen a las partes femeninas un día o dos antes de que el polen de origen femenino llegue a ser viable, y/o varias mañanas consecutivas antes de que el polen de origen femenino u otro polen de planta próxima comience a caer cada día.
