Abstract
Un proceso mejorado para preparar propilenglicol bioderivado a partir de una composición de partida que incluye al menos uno de: ácido láctico, glicerol, un azúcar de cinco carbonos, un alditol de cinco carbonos, un azúcar de seis carbonos y un alditol de seis carbonos, donde la producción de dioles de cuatro carbonos y superiores se reduce añadiendo una base después del inicio de la reacción. En las realizaciones preferidas, se establecen inicialmente el pH del proceso y otras condiciones del proceso en valores fijados para obtener la conversión más elevada para un catalizador dado coherente con la ausencia, sustancialmente, de la producción de subproductos pentanodiólicos en la mezcla producto y se añade la base después para controlar el pH del proceso cerca del valor fijado inicialmente.
