Abstract
La invención se refiere a baterías de flujo de óxido-reducción que comprenden una o más celdas electroquímicas en contacto de fluido con una celda de equilibrio electroquímico, la celda de equilibrio comprendiendo: (i) un primer electrodo que comprende un electrodo de difusión de gas y el primer electrodo comprendiendo un catalizador de oxidación de hidrógeno, en donde el primer electrodo se mantiene a un potencial más positivo que el potencial termodinámico para la evolución de hidrógeno; (ii) un segundo electrodo, el segundo electrodo haciendo contacto con el electrolito negativo, y el segundo electrodo siendo mantenido a un potencial suficientemente negativo para reducir el electrolito negativo; (iii) una membrana dispuesta entre el electrodo positivo y el electrodo negativo, la membrana adecuada para permitir que los cationes de hidrógeno fluyan de la membrana al electrolito negativo; y (iv) un medio para poner en contacto el hidrógeno con el primer electrodo.
