Abstract

Se ha descrito una composición para la purificación de agua y el dispositivo que utiliza la composición. La composición comprende un compuesto que libera iones de metal de transición Mn+ junto con un compuesto que libera CO32- o un compuesto que libera SiO32-. La composición Mn+/CO32- o Mn+/SiO32- se proporciona para desinfectar varias especies interferentes que se encuentran generalmente en el agua. También se ha demostrado la utilidad de la composición con respecto a la Ag+ utilizada tradicionalmente para la actividad antimicrobiana en función de diversos aspectos, como la reducción en el tiempo de contacto requerido para la eliminación, la capacidad de eliminar microorganismos en presencia de especies interferentes, la actividad contra diversos tipos de microrganismos, la actividad antimicrobiana incluso en concentraciones bajas de la composición, la capacidad de manipular concentraciones altas de microorganismos y la capacidad de proporcionar esterilidad al agua durante un periodo de almacenamiento prolongado.
