Abstract

Se describe una combinación de una planta de procesamiento de maíz y caña de azúcar y sistemas y procedimientos para la producción de alcohol en los mismos; una planta existente de procesamiento de maíz y caña de azúcar, la cual puede producir azúcar y/o alcohol de caña de azúcar, puede ser modernizada, para permitir el procesamiento simultáneo de otras materias primas, como el maíz, para la producción de alcohol, sin cambios significativos en el equipo y línea de procesamiento existente para la caña de azúcar o una importante inversión de capital; alternativamente, la combinación de plantas de procesamiento de maíz y caña de azúcar puede ser construida desde el inicio, si así se desea; tales plantas de procesamiento pueden procesar por separado pero simultáneamente corrientes de maíz y de caña de azúcar de extremo frontal, que convergen para compartir la misma fermentación y/o destilación y equipamiento de extremo posterior para la producción de alcohol y otros subproductos opcionales; en un ejemplo, la fibra de maíz puede ser retirada antes de la fermentación, con el fin de permitir que la caña de azúcar y otras materias primas que contengan insolubles sean co-procesadas al mismo tiempo.
