Abstract

Esta invención abarca métodos, composiciones farmacéuticas, y kits, que usan células derivadas de tejido de cordón umbilical, para modular (por ejemplo, reducir) la producción de mediadores proinflamatorios implicados en la patología de una enfermedad, trastorno, y/o lesión pulmonar en un paciente que tiene la enfermedad, trastorno, y/o lesión pulmonar; la invención abarca además métodos, composiciones farmacéuticas, y kits, que usan células derivadas de tejido de cordón umbilical, para inhibir la producción de mediadores proinflamatorios implicados en la patología de una enfermedad, trastorno, y/o lesión pulmonar en un paciente que tiene la enfermedad, trastorno, y/o lesión pulmonar con el uso de células derivadas de tejido de cordón umbilical; en una modalidad, las células derivadas de tejido de cordón umbilical se aíslan del tejido de cordón umbilical humano sustancialmente libre de sangre, tienen la capacidad de autorrenovación y de expansión en cultivo, carecen de la producción de CD117 o CD45, y no expresan hTERT o telomerasa.
