Abstract

La presente invención se refiere a un sistema de enfriamiento interno para un sello mecánico con el objetivo principal de proporcionar al mismo condiciones de mayor confiabilidad y periodos más largos de vida de servicio, en particular, cuando se aplica a dispositivos rotativos de bombeo que operan a temperaturas menores a los 420°C, y presiones de menos de 3.3 MPa, siendo las presiones susceptibles a alteración dependiendo de la dimensión del sello, el producto que se va a bombear y su velocidad rotativa. El sistema comprende la implementación de un circuito interno en el cuerpo del sello mecánico, a través del cual circulará un fluido de enfriamiento, preferiblemente un gas inerte a una presión estable que enfriará las áreas críticas, previniendo de esta manera que la temperatura exceda los 180°C en estos puntos. Este sistema también se puede aplicar a un sello ya existente siempre que las condiciones de servicio sean conocidas. El sistema de enfriamiento se aplica a los sellos con el fin de sellar los productos químicos o petroquímicos, tal como por ejemplo el bombeo de petróleo crudo y los derivados del mismo.
