Abstract

La invención se refiere a un dispositivo y a un método para la purificación de agua usando una membrana de ósmosis inversa (RO). Hay una necesidad de mantener un nivel de TDS uniforme en el agua de salida que ha sido purificada usando un procedimiento de ósmosis inversa, en donde hay una variación significativa en los niveles de TDS del agua de entrada. Esto es importante considerando el hecho de que puede haber una variación significativa en los niveles de TDS de varias fuentes de agua. Un objetivo de la presente invención es por lo tanto diseñar un cartucho de filtro para asegurar que el nivel de TDS en el agua purificada por una membrana de ósmosis inversa se mantenga dentro de un rango de 25 a 200 ppm (partes por millón) independientemente de los niveles de TDS en el agua de entrada. Otro objetivo de la presente invención es proveer un cartucho de filtro que proporcione una liberación sostenida de TDS durante una vida útil típica de una membrana de RO que es generalmente de aproximadamente 8,000 a 10,000 litros. Hemos determinado que una cierta combinación de carbonato de calcio y carbonato de magnesio provee un aumento controlado de los TDS independientemente de los niveles de TDS en el agua de entrada, haciendo así que el agua sea agradable al paladar.
