Abstract

Esta exposición describe métodos para reducir éter de hidroximetilfurfural y derivados de éster para producir, en el caso de los éteres, 5-(alcoximetil)-tetrahidrofurano-2-metanol y derivados de (5-alcoximetil)-furano-2-metanol, o en el caso de los ésteres, 5-(aciloximetil)-tetrahidrofurano-2-metanol y derivados de 5-(aciloximetil)-furano-2-metanol. Los métodos ejemplificados describen la purificación de los mismos. Además, la exposición se refiere a compuestos de n-alcoxi hexano diol, que son compuestos derivados útiles para el reemplazo de compuestos de carbitol a base de petróleo y pueden producirse mediante la reducción adicional del 5-(alcoximetil)-tetrahidrofura no-2-metanol y derivados de (5-alcoximetil)-furano-2-metanol. Los compuestos producidos por los métodos de la presente enseñanza son útiles como solventes y como materiales de inicio para producir otras composiciones que satisfacen los requerimientos de los químicos industriales de base biológica provenientes de recursos renovables.
