Abstract

La invención se dirige a un proceso para la recuperación de azufre de gases que contienen azufre con una alta eficiencia en la recuperación de azufre de al menos 99.8 %. De acuerdo con el proceso de la invención, se hidrogena un gas de cola de una instalación tipo Claus con una eficiencia de recuperación de azufre de al menos 97 % y que tiene una concentración de oxígeno libre de 0.1-0.7 %vol, y posteriormente el H2S se remueve de la corriente de gas resultante, por ejemplo, al oxidarla selectivamente a una temperatura entre la temperatura del punto de rocío del agua y 280ºC, y enfriarla a una temperatura de 80-115 ºC. El proceso de la invención permite eficiencias totales de recuperación de azufre de al menos 99.8 %.
