Description
COMPACT CASE OF COSMETICS BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION This invention relates to compact cases. More particularly, this invention relates to compact cases containing cosmetics for application by a user. Cosmetics such as face powder, eyeshadow, rouge, foundation for makeup, blush, block mask, lipstick and similar cosmetic compositions are often packaged in containers typically referred to as compact cases. Typical compact cases include a base formed as a tray with one or more recesses in which a cosmetic composition is stored, typically in a compressed form, and a cover that is located above the base and encloses the composition (s) stored in the container. hollow (s) to prevent drying, spilling and contamination of the stored composition (s). Typically the base and cover are hinged together along one side of the compact case and are provided with means that allow the user to manually close the compact case in a releasable manner. U.S. Patent 1,518,594 discloses a cosmetic box consisting of a base member and a mirror cover member. A container (also referred to as an intermediate member) is mounted between the base and the cover and is provided with means to secure
to the intermediate member a plurality of toilet accessories such as compact cases. The intermediate member is dismountably mounted in the housing on a pivot bolt and preferably has a pair of compact cases, such as a compact blusher case and a compact dust case, secured thereto. The pair of compact cases may be arranged in a row or both may be faced outward. U.S. Patent 2,570,314 discloses an improvement in compact cases provided with a mirror. The purpose of the patent holder is to protect the mirror from the effects of the powder contained in the compact case when the compact case is closed. The patent holder also seeks to allow the use of the mirror (which is typically fixed to the interior of the compact case cover) when the compact case is closed. Another feature of the invention of the patent holder is that the mirror is rotatably mounted within the cover and automatically pivots in the opening or closure of the cover so that the mirror faces outwardly when the compact case is closed. In such a position the mirror is protected from the effects of the powder lost from the compact or the dust in the hole and the mirror can be used for the application of, for example, lipstick. When the compact case is open, the mirror will
It faces inward and can be used for powder application. The base of the compact case of the patent holder contains a dust retention hole for the powder and compact. U.S. Patent 5,437,294 discloses a compact case having a base and / or a cover having a peripheral frame and a central panel. The patentees teach that, when the base member comprises a frame and panel, one of the larger faces of the panel is formed as a tray for containing material to be contained in the compact case. The patentees further teach that when the cover member comprises a frame and panel, at least one of the larger faces of the panel carries a mirror. The panel is formed and sized to be rotatable, relative to the frame, through at least 180 ° between two positions in which the opposite major faces of the panel are respectively exposed to the outside of the compact case when the compact case is closed with the panel that is substantially at the level of the frame in each of these positions. The compact case can be closed with the contents of the panel tray exposed to the outside of the compact case or with the mirror on the opposite side of the panel exposed to the outside of the compact case. Women of the 21st century are obliged to carry
handbags and bags that are heavy and crowded with wallets, credit card holders, and countless cosmetic and / or cosmeceutical products. There is a need to reduce the congestion and weight of a handbag and women's handbag without reducing access to the myriad of cosmetic products required by today's active women. The present invention provides a compact cosmetic case which is consolidated into a compact case of a plurality of cosmetic compositions. In a preferred embodiment, the compositions are maintained in a two-sided tray having a plurality of cavities on each side, each cavity being adapted to receive a pre-loaded reservoir with a number of cosmetic compositions. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The present invention provides a compact kit for one or more cosmetic compositions, preferably for a plurality of cosmetic compositions. The term cosmetic compositions is proposed to include cosmetic and cosmeceutical compositions, as is known in cosmetic arts, especially powder compositions in the form of a block powder also known as a pressed powder, for example face powder, eye shadow, blusher, foundation, blush, block mask, pencil
labial and the like. The compact case comprises a base and a cover that sits on top of the base to define a compact box. The cover is mounted pivotably on the base for upward rotation from the base to an open position, or down from the open position towards the base to close the compact case. The compact case further comprises a central frame having a through space, the frame that is spliced into the base, and a two-sided tray having a first tray section and a second tray section opposite, the tray being spliced in the frame within the through space and rotatable within the frame when the cover is in the open position. Accordingly, the first tray section can be rotated from a facing position away from the base to a position in which the first tray section faces towards the base. Consequently, the second tray section rotates simultaneously from a position facing the base to a position in which the second tray section faces away from the base. The first and second tray sections of the two-sided tray are provided with a plurality of cavities adapted to receive the cosmetic composition. The cosmetic composition is typically pre-formed within a tin or aluminum deposit of
thin wall that can be fixed inside the cavities. In a preferred embodiment, the compact case comprises (a) a base and (b) a cover that is located above the base to define a compact case. The cover is mounted pivotably on the base for upward rotation from the base to an open position, or down from the open position towards the base to close the compact case. The compact case further comprises (c) a central frame having a through space, the frame that is spliced into the base and that is pivotably mounted on the base for upward rotation from the base to the cover or down from the base. cover to the base and (d) a two-sided tray having a first tray section and a second tray section opposite. The tray is spliced into the frame within the through space and rotatable within the frame when the cover is in the open position and the frame has been pivoted upwardly from the base. When the tray is rotated in the frame, the first tray section rotates from a facing position away from the base to a facing position towards the base. Consequently, the second tray section rotates simultaneously from a position facing the base to a facing position away from the base. In one embodiment, the first and second tray sections of the two-sided tray are provided with a
plurality of compartments adapted to receive the cosmetic composition. In another embodiment, at least one tray section receives (e) a tray insert having the plurality of cavities containing the cosmetic composition. Preferably, each tray section receives a tray insert. The cosmetic composition is typically pre-formed within a tin-walled or thin-walled aluminum reservoir that can be fixed within the compartments or cavities, as the case may be. Tray inserts can be replaceable to allow consumers to replenish their cosmetic supply. Alternatively, the deposits can be removed from the cavities so that filled deposits can be inserted in their place. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS The present invention will now be described with reference to the drawings in which: Fig. 1 is a perspective view, from above, of a compact cosmetic case according to the present invention, the compact case that is closed; Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the compact case of Fig. 1 with the cover pivoted to the open position and showing the mirror and the tray; Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the compact case of Fig. 2 with the frame and tray assembly

Fig. 11 is an alternate embodiment of the tray. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION As shown in the drawings, particularly Fig. 4, the compact case 1 of the present invention has a base 2 having opposite side walls 4a, 4b and a front wall 3. The front wall 3 is typically thicker than the opposite side walls 4a, 4b and has a recessed portion 5. As best shown in Fig. 5, the opposite side walls 4a, 4b of the base 2 are respectively
provided on their rear inner surfaces with base flanges 21a, 21b. A cover 7 is superimposed on the base 1 to define an interior compartment and is pivotally mounted on the base 1. Together the base 2 and the cover on setting 7 define a compact box. The cover 7 has opposite shallow side walls, 8a, 8b and a shallow front wall 9. The front wall 9 of the cover 7 has an extended portion 10 which fits into the recessed portion 5 when the cover is pivoted downward in direction to base 2 to close the compact case. As best shown in Fig. 5, the cover 7 also includes the rear wall 6 described in more detail below. The recess Ia and the tongue 11b are respectively provided on the extended portion 10 and the recessed portion 5, and cooperate to releasably maintain the compact case in the closed position when the cover 7 is pivoted to close the compact case 1 with the extended portion 10 coupling the recessed portion 5. Any suitable closure system known in the art, however, can be used. The cover 7 can be adapted with the mirror 12. Preferably, as shown in Fig. 4, the mirror 12 is placed on the underside of the cover 7.
With reference to Figs. 4 and 5, the frame 13 is pivotally mounted on the base flanges 21a, 21b on the opposite side walls 4a, 4b of the base 2 and is comprised of opposite side walls 14a, 14b, the front wall 15 having a cutout portion 16 that facilitates the lifting of the frame by a user's finger, and a rear wall 17. As shown in Fig. 5, frame 13 is provided with frame flanges 18a, 18b which are positioned adjacent to base flanges 21a, 21b. Each of the flanges 18a, and 18b has a bolt hole therethrough (19a, 19b) which aligns with the corresponding bolt holes 20a, 20b in the base flanges 21a, 21b. The rear wall 6 of the cover 7 is provided with an extension 6A dimensioned to fit between the frame flanges 18a, 18b. The extension 22 is provided with bolt holes 31a and 31b, which are located along the same axis as the bolt holes 19a, 19b in the flanges 18a, 18b and in the same axis as the bolt holes 20a, 20b in the base tabs 21a, 21b. That is, the bolt holes 20a, 20b, 18a, 18b, 31a, 31b are in alignment, and consequently, located along the same axis. The bolts 45 are inserted through the bolt holes 20a, 20b, 18a, 18b, 31a, 31b to join the frame 13, the base 2 and
the cover 7. The cover 7 and the frame 13 are then able to pivot away from or towards the base 2. While the pins 45 are preferred to fix the frame pivotally to the base, any suitable joining method used in the art can to be used. For example, a ball-and-socket joint can be used. In another embodiment, the opening of the cover 7 to its fullest extent can cause the frame 13 to lift up a small amount from its spliced position within the base 12, to allow the consumer to then pivot the frame completely from the vicinity of the frame. base. This construction avoids the need for the cut-out 16 in the front wall 15. As shown in Fig. 4 and Fig. 6, the frame 13 is adapted with a two-sided tray 22. The tray 22 has a first section of tray 26 and a second opposed tray section 27 (tray section 27 is shown in Figs 8 and 9), each tray section 26, 27 having shallow side walls defining at least one compartment. In one embodiment, the tray section (s) has a plurality of compartments that contain one or more cosmetic compositions. In one aspect of this embodiment and as shown in Fig. 6, the shallow side walls of the tray sections 26, 27 define a single compartment, the compartment which is provided with a
tray insert 23 having at least one cavity, but preferably having at least two cavities, for example, cavities 24a, 24b, 24c, 24d of tray insert 23a, to contain one or more cosmetic compositions. The tray insert 23 is retained in the tray 22 by suitable means, for example, by a friction adjustment or by a magnet placed on the bottom surface of the tray section 26 or 27 as the case may be, with a strip of complementary metal on the bottom surface of the tray insert 23. One or more of the cosmetic compositions contained in the one or more compartments or the one? more cavities can be a pressed powder cosmetic composition. Each cavity 24a, 24b, 24c, 24d (also referred to as a "hollow") may contain a different cosmetic composition, for example, a block mask, rouge, foundation for makeup, blush, face powder, lipstick, shadow of eyes, etc. Alternatively, different shades of the same cosmetic composition can be provided. The cavities can be sized according to the type of makeup that is used most frequently. As discussed in more detail below, the cosmetic composition, especially a pressed powder cosmetic composition 29, is preferably retained in a metal container 28 which is fixed within the tray compartments or the containers.
tray insert cavities, preferably, a plurality of cavities or compartments in each tray section contains a pressed powder cosmetic composition, and typically all of the cavities or compartments in at least one tray section contain a pressed powder cosmetic composition. . With reference to Fig. 6, the second tray section 27 (shown in Fig. 8) of the tray 22 is also preferably adapted with the second tray insert 23b- having at least one cavity, but preferably having at least two cavities (hollows), for example separate cavities 25a, 25b and 25c. In another embodiment, the two-sided tray, tray 22a as shown in FIG. 11, is manufactured, for example, upon molding, as a unitary piece in which at least one side of the tray of two sides and of preferably both sides have inner wall (s) 48 defining two or more compartments, e.g., compartments 49a, 49b, 49c and 49d shown in Fig. 11. The compartments 49 provide the same function as the cavities 24, 25 formed in the tray inserts 23a and 23b, specifically for containing the cosmetic composition, as set forth in the discussion below describing the operation of the compact case 1 having cavities 24, 25. As shown in Fig. 9, and more clearly
in Fig. 4, the tray 22 (or tray 22a in the discussion below) is rotatably mounted in the frame 13. Accordingly, the tray 22 can be rotated so that either the tray section 26 or the tray section 27 of the tray 22 faces upwards, with respect to the cover 7. In other words, the tray 22 can be rotated so that the cavities 24 in the tray insert 23a face upwards and the cavities 25 in the insert 23b are facing downwards or the tray 22 can be rotated so that the cavities 24 in the insert 23a face downwards and the cavities 25 in the insert 23b face upwards. The tray 22 can be rotatably retained in the frame by means of the bolts 35. In another embodiment a ball-and-socket joint can be used to rotatably maintain the tray 22 within the through space of the frame 13. As shown in FIG. outer surfaces of the side walls of tray 36a, 36b each may be provided with a hub 38, with each inner surface of the side walls 14a, 14b being provided with a complementary ball 40. The balls 40 are attached to the hubs 38 that provide the pivotable, removable attachment of the tray 22 within the frame 13. Similarly, the tray 22a is provided with cubes 38 that provide the rotatable, removable attachment of the tray 22a within the frame 13. The frame or tray also
they may have means to help retain the tray in a spliced position within the frame. For example, the interior surfaces of the side walls 14a, 14b of the frame 13 can be provided with one or more flat portions 30 to provide a friction fit with the tray 22. Alternatively, the flat portions can be placed on the outer surface of the tray. the side walls of the tray. In another embodiment, the front and / or rear walls of the tray 22 can be molded to have a line of ridges centrally located between the opposite side walls of the tray 22, the central flange frictionally engaging the inner surface of the respective wall of the frame 13. The multi-compartment tray, on two sides of the compact case of the present invention allows the variation of product mixes based on the type of composition, format, texture, shade and / or color. The compact case may also contain either one compartment of the tray 22 or a cavity 24, 25 of the tray insert 23, in the compartment 49 of the tray 22a, or in the interior compartment of the cosmetic box, one or more implements or cosmetic tools necessary for consumers to apply makeup to the face, lips or eyes. For example, a brush, an eye shadow applicator with a foam tip, a brush and the like. As well
can be provided tool for makeup removal. From the consumer's perspective, the present invention provides a compact case for all the user's cosmetic needs for the face, eyes and lips, and frees up space in a woman's handbag or purse. A compact case can be used for: (i) facial products such as face powder, glitter powder, make-up base (eg, powder, hot cast) and all over the hot, low-gloss cast; (ii) blush products such as faint glow, concealer and camouflage; (üi) eye products such as eyeshadow, glitter and cream, (eye shadow coating) (wet / dry), eye liner, eyeliner and block mask; (iv) lip products such as lipstick, lip gloss, lip dresser, lip scrub and matte lip stain; and (v) any combination thereof. In the manufacturing process, the cosmetic composition is added to a tin or aluminum deposit
thin-walled 28 whose shape conforms to the shape of a compartment 49 in the tray 22a or a cavity 24, 25 in the tray insert 23a, 23b in which it is to be placed. When the . The cosmetic composition is a powder powder, the powder is placed in the reservoir 28 and compressed to provide a pressed powder cosmetic 29. The reservoir 28 is then inserted into the cavity or compartment (e.g., cavity 24a, as shown in FIG. Fig. 6). If desired, the reservoir can be fixed in the cavity (compartment) with any suitable adhesive. In the manufacturing process, it is preferred that the powder is not compressed directly into the cavities or compartments, for example, cavity 24a or compartment 49, because the tray 22, 22a or the tray insert 23a, 23b may not be capable of to withstand high compression forces. The use of individual reservoirs 28 (also referred to as godets) is advantageous in that it allows fast filling / manufacturing, the ability to fill in more than one site, and the ability to quickly change product mixes in response to changes in the fashion and consumer trends. Advantageously, the tanks 28 can be removable so that consumers can replace the depleted tanks, or try different cosmetic color combinations. In this mode the tanks 28 can be retained in the compartment (or
cavity) in a suitable manner, for example, they can be frictionally adjusted within the cavities 24, 25 or held in place by a magnet on the bottom surface of the cavity when the reservoir is made of ferromagnetic material such as steel Electrodeposited tin or has a strip of such material on its bottom surface. On the other hand, individual deposits can be worked with tools in various shapes without sizes without re-working with tools the complete compact case which translates into savings in the expense of work with tools. It should be noted that although the compact case of the present invention has been described and illustrated in the drawings with reference to a referred box-like embodiment, other compact cases formed are proposed to be within the scope of the invention, for example compact cases of cylindrical configuration, round, oval and egg-shaped. The compact case can be manufactured by methods known in the art. Typically, the component parts are injection molded of a suitable polymer, preferably using acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene resin (ABS) or styrene-acrylonitrile resin (SAN) and especially a mixture of ABS and SAN resins. It must be understood that the above description is
illustrative only of the present invention. Various alternatives and modifications can be devised by those skilled in the art without departing from the invention. Accordingly, the present invention is intended to encompass all such alternatives, modifications and variations that fall within the scope of the appended claims.
