Detailed Description of the Invention Figures 1-2 illustrate a package 20 in accordance with an exemplary embodiment of the description including a dispensing closure 22 applied to the neck termination 24 of a container 26. The container 26 has a body 28 that can be integral or be made separately from the neck termination 24. The neck termination 24 typically can be cylindrical in geometry and has one or more external flanges or thread segments 29 by means of which the closure 22 is secured to the neck termination 24. (The term "thread segment" is used in its broad conventional sense to include both complete and partial threads, and both continuous and interrupted threads). The container 26, including neck termination 24 and body 28, is preferably of integrally molded plastic construction, with the container body being resiliently squeezable to distribute the product through the dispensing closure. The dispensing closure 22 includes a cover 30 (FIGS. 4-8) of an integrally molded plastic construction in one piece. The cover 30 in the illustrated exemplary embodiment of the description includes a base 32 to which a cover 34 is engaged by a hinge 36. The hinge 36 may comprise one or more articulation elements. The specific articulation 36 illustrated in the figures is a quick-fitting hinge of the type described in U.S. Patent 6,041,477, although other articulation constructions can be employed. The base 32 in the exemplary embodiment of the description includes a platform 38 of which an inner edge 40 depends. The inner edge 40 has suitable internal flanges or thread segments 42 for securing to external flanges or threaded elements 29 in the container platform termination 24 to secure the closure 2 to the container 26. An outer peripheral edge 44 extends from the platform 38, and is preferably contoured in coordination with the contour of the container 26 to which the closure 222 will be secured. The outer edge 44 in the exemplary embodiment of the description is substantially cylindrical. The outer edge may be coaxial with the inner edge 40 as in the exemplary embodiment, or may be offset from the axis of the inner edge. A recess 46 is provided in the extended platform 38 of the hinge to a position in the opposite base 32 of the hinge 36. In the illustrated exemplary embodiment of the description, the recess 46 has a pair of laterally spaced walls 48, 50 that are straight and converge towards each other from the joint 36 to the opposite side of the base 32. A latch recess 52 on the edge 44 opens on the end of the platform recess 46 opposite to the articulation 36 and extends between the opposite surfaces of the recess side walls 48, 50. The latch recess 52 has an axially facing lower wall 54, which is preferably substantially planar and is spaced downward or axially from the adjacent edge of the platform recess 46. A step or protrusion 56 is provided between the wall 54 and the adjacent edge of the platform recess 46. The upper or axially facing surface of the projection 56 is arched as seen from the axial direction in Figure 5. (Directional words such as "upper" and "lower" are employed by way of description and not limitation with respect to the straight orientation of the closure and / or container as illustrated in Figure 2, for example, directional words such as "axial" and "radial" are used by way of description and not limitation with respect to the axis of the neck termination 24 of container and / or inner edge 40 of closure as appropriate). A pair of shoulders 58, 60 extends upwardly from the wall 54 adjacent to and contiguous with the recess side walls 48, 50 and adjacent the projection 56. The radially externally facing surface 62 (Figures 2, 4 and 6) of the recess of platform 46 is arched as seen from the axial direction (figure 5) and has an arcuately extended hook element 64, such as a flange or channel (figures 2, 5, and 6).
A distribution aperture 66 is provided in the bottom wall 68 of the platform recess 46. The bottom recess wall 63 may be crowned, flat or of any other desired geometry, and may be any desired to the edge axis 40. The dispensing aperture 66 is preferably coaxial with the inner edge 40, although this does not necessarily need to be the case. The exemplary dispensing aperture 66 is round, although other geometries may be employed. In the exemplary embodiment of the disclosure, a distribution valve 70 is mounted within the distribution opening 66. The provision of the distribution valve 70 is preferred, but not necessarily in accordance with all aspects of the present disclosure. The distribution valve 70, when provided, may be assembled in accordance with the disclosure of United States Patent 6,672,487, United States Patent Document 2005/0279781] and / or United States Application 11 / 076,376. The inner periphery of the dispensing aperture 66 is preferably formed by a conical wall 72 that tapers axially downwardly of the upper surface of the platform recess wall 68. The cap 34 in the exemplary embodiment of the disclosure includes a base portion with a base wall 76 which is connected at one end to the joint 36. In the exemplary embodiment of the disclosure, the lid 34 has laterally opposite side edges 78, 80, preferably straight side edges, which converge towards each other away from the link 36 and are complementary with the side walls 48, 50 of the platform recess 46. A tab 82 extends substantially perpendicularly from lid base wall 76 to a spaced apart position of hinge 36. Tab 82 is contoured for reception on the edge of platform recess 46 spaced from hinge 36 between wall 62 and shoulders 58, 60. The tongue 82 is therefore arched as seen from the axial direction, best seen in Figure 5. The spacing between the shoulders 58, 60 and wall 62 of the base 32 preferably is such that the tongue 82 is received from fractional way between the shoulders 58, 60 and wall 62 to help prevent inadvertent opening of the lid. Preferably it is an internal shoulder 84 on the tongue 82 which is received by quick positioning on the hooking member 64 on the wall 62 when the lid is closed further to prevent inadvertent opening of the lid. In the exemplary embodiment of the description, the side walls 86, 88 extend along the side sides of the lid 34 to reinforce the lid. Also, preferably there are laterally spaced bevels 90, 92 extending between the inner tab surface 82 and the opposite inner surface of the base wall 76 to reinforce the tongue 82 against bending. A pin 94 is formed on the inner surface of the cover wall 76. The pin 94 includes an annular wall 96 that is contoured for narrow reception within the dispensing aperture 66. The dimensions between the articulation 36 and pin wall 96 in the lid 34, and between the articulation 36 and wall 72 surrounding the dispensing opening 6 in the base 32, are preferably such that the wall portion 9 adjacent the articulation 36 engages the wall portion 72 adjacent the joint 36 and the lid 34 is moved away from the articulation 36 when the lid 34 is closed. This feature of the description cooperates with the converging side edges of the platform recess 46 and cover 34 to close any opening between the side edges and push the cover toward the recess 52. In implementations of the disclosure including a dispensing valve 70 (Fig. 4), the annular wall 96 is preferably provided with a circumferential array of internal axial channels 100. The channels 100 allow air to be vented in the container after the lid 34 is closed. For example, if the container is squeezed to distribute the product and the lid closes immediately, the channels 100 allow air into the container and the container side walls can resume their contents. normal settings. In implementations of the disclosure that include a dispensing valve 70, the crossed shoulders 102 within the wall 96 engage the upper surface of the valve and prevent the inadvertent outward opening of the valve when the lid is closed. In the closed position of the lid 34 (FIG. 2), the wall 96 is preferably positioned between the internal periphery of the dispensing opening 66 and the outer periphery of the valve 70, where a valve is provided, to prevent the opening of the valve . In use, the container 26 is preferably filled with product before the closure 22 is applied to the container. A sheet metal seal disc 103 (FIG. 2) can be secured over the open end of the container neck termination 24 before the closure 22 is applied to the neck termination. The closure 22 must be removed and the sheet metal disc 103 removed before the product can be dispensed. The plate disc, where it is used, could provide an indication that the container has not been opened previously. To distribute product, the lid 34 is opened by inserting a finger into the latch recess 22 and exerting upward force on the superimposed end of the lid 34. This upward force must overcome the rapid receiving force of the shoulder 88 on the tongue 82. over the hook element 64 in the wall 62, and overcome the force of fractional engagement between the shoulders, 58, 60 and the outer face of the tongue 82. When these forces have been overcome and the lid 34 has been opened, the product can be distributed through the distribution opening 66 of the closure base 32. After the product has been distributed, the lid 34 can be pivoted towards the closed position. The wall 96 in the lid 34 engages the rear side of the wall 72 that surrounds the dispensing opening 66 - that is, the side of the wall adjacent to the articulation 36 - to lift the lid 34 towards the latch recess 52 when the lid closes. This cover automatically aligns with the platform recess 46 and helps close some openings that may otherwise exist between the side boards of the lid and the opposite side edges of the platform recess. The tab 82 is received between the shoulders 58, 60 and wall 62, and the shoulder 84 is received by quick positioning on the hook element 64 to complete the closing of the lid. The channels 100 in the wall 96 allow the air to be vented after the cover is closed. In the closed position of the lid, the tab 82 of the lid 34 rests on the projection 56 of the base 32, and the support legs 104 (figures 2 and 4-6) on the lid 34 engage the projections 106 (FIGS. and 5) in the base 32 to support the lid in the closed position. The cover 34 is received in the recess of platform 46 so that the outer surface of the lid is at a desired elevation with respect to the external surface of the base platform 38. The orthogonally spaced external keyholes 98 are preferably provided around the wall 96 and extend along the the lower face of the wall 76. The bevels 98 couple the platform 38 around the dispensing opening 66, as shown in Figure 2. In the exemplary embodiment, the outer surface of the lid 34 forms a slightly concave surface substantially continuous with the external surface of the platform 38, although another surface configuration can be employed. A logo and / or other indications may be molded, printed or otherwise provided on the outer surface of the lid 34 and / or platform 38. Accordingly, a dispensing closure, a container closure and container, and a container have been described. method to make a distribution closure that completely satisfy all the objects and purposes previously described. The description has been presented in conjunction with an exemplary currently preferred embodiment, and a number of modifications and variations have been discussed. Other modifications and variations will readily suggest same to persons of ordinary skill in the art in view of the foregoing description. The description is proposed that cover all modifications and variations when they fall within the spirit and broad scope of the appended claims. It is noted that in relation to this date, the best method known to the applicant to carry out the aforementioned invention, is that which is clear from the present description of the invention.
