Abstract

Se describe un dispositivo de codificacion (1) para convertir un primer numero (M) de canales de audio de entrada en un segundo numero mas pequeno (N) de canales de audio de salida que comprende al menos una unidad de conversacion (12) para convertir una primera senal (Lf; Rf; Co) y una segunda senal (Lr; Rr; Le) en una tercera senal (L; R; C) y una cuarta senal (Ls; Rs; Cs). La tercera senal dominante contiene la mayoria de la energia de senal de las primera y segunda senales, mientras que la cuarta senal residual contiene el resto de la energia de senal. El dispositivo de codificacion esta dispuesto para usar la tercera senal (L; R; C) para producir una senal de salida y para emitir la cuarta senal (Ls; Rs; Cs). Se describe tambien un dispositivo de decodificacion (2) para convertir un primer numero (N) de canales de audio de entrada en un segundo numero mas grande (M) de canales de audio de salida que comprende al menos una unidad de conversion (24) para convertir una primera senal (L; R; C) y una segunda senal (Ld; Rd; Ld) en una tercera senal (Lf; Rf; Co) y una cuarta senal (Lr, Rr; Le). La primera senal dominante contiene la mayoria de la energia de senal de las tercera y cuarta senales, mientras que la segunda senal residual contiene el resto de la energia de senal. El dispositivo de decodificacion esta dispuesto para recibir al menos una segunda senal (Ld; Rd; Cd).
