The invention relates to a fastening device which can also be a closing device, formed of two supports provided with fastening members intended to be brought into a relationship of mutual interpenetration when the two supports are pressed against each other.

For several years now, fastening devices consisting of two flexible parts equipped with fastening elements and designed to be applied against each other have been known.

For example, Swiss patent No. 339.155 describes such a device in which the fastening elements of one part are loops, while the fastening elements of the other part are hooks. A fastening device composed of two similar parts is also known, each part having a multitude of loops forming a mat of a given thickness, as well as a multitude of hooks. Loop and hook devices are generally made using weaving processes. They find applications in various sectors, including the clothing industry (fastening garments), the furniture industry (upholstering seats, securing carpets), the medical field (fixing bandages), and others.

There are also known attachment devices consisting of two interlocking parts made of plastic or metal. For this purpose, an attachment element has already been proposed, composed of a synthetic base support with a large number of closely spaced protrusions on its surface, capable of engaging with the protrusions of another similar element. These protrusions can be mushroom-shaped or hook-shaped, made of the same material as the base support, and the element can be manufactured, for example, by injecting the synthetic material into a matrix.

A metallic fastening device called a staple fastening device has also been proposed. This device comprises two parts, one with a large number of metal hooks, the other with a large number of metal loops, the hooks and loops being held in plastic bands.

These devices, made of plastic or metal, have a strong adhesive force, but they are in

generally less flexible than devices obtained by weaving or knitting, and are, consequently, used for other purposes, for example for fixing decorative panels or for holding objects in place in vehicles of all kinds.

All the devices already proposed or implemented share the common characteristic of not being elastically deformable under acceptable conditions, while often being very flexible. However, in many applications, such elastic deformability is not only desirable but often essential, otherwise this type of fastening or closure device would be unusable. For example, in the clothing industry, stretch fabrics are frequently used, and if known fastening devices are used as closures, the part of the fabric to which the device is attached largely loses its elasticity. For this reason, these fastening devices are, among other things, relatively little used for women's lingerie, corsetry, various medical applications, and others.

One of the objects of the present invention is a hooking or closing device which can, without coming unhooked, undergo elastic deformations, even significant ones, under the effect, among other things, of the stresses of a longitudinal traction.

To this end, the fastening or closing device according to the invention is characterized in that it is made in such a way that the supports of the fastening and fastened elements exhibit elastic properties in at least one direction. These elastic properties of the two supports may be equal or different, and even one of the supports may be elastic and the other not.

In such an elastic device, a tensile force of 35 can be exerted without compromising the secure attachment, resulting in a corresponding elongation of the device. The tensile forces in two opposite directions can be applied either simultaneously to both superimposed, mutually attached supports, or to one in one direction and the other in the opposite direction. They will extend by the same length when this tension is applied to them, and the fastening elements, which are in a position of interpenetration, will not undergo any detrimental displacement relative to each other. In any case, they will remain perfectly fastened. If the fastening device according to the invention is used to fasten two parts of an elastic fabric, it can, if tension is applied to the fabric, extend along with the fabric. This will result in a flexible fastening or closure. If, on the other hand, the two supports have different elasticity, the difference must always be chosen such that the average elasticity of the fastening or closure device is sufficient to absorb the stresses anticipated in the specific applications considered.

The drawings represent, by way of example, methods of implementing the elastic attachment device, the subject of the invention. In these drawings:

Figure 1 shows a cross-section of a hook support for a fastening or closure device made by weaving.

Figure 2 shows a cross-section, through a section of a looped support for a fastening or closing device made by weaving. These two supports are intended to be applied and pressed together in the fastening or closing position of the device;

Figure 3 shows in perspective view a section of an elastic fastening and closing device according to the invention;

Figure 4 shows a cross-section of a section of a fastening and closing device according to the invention, shown in a state of interpenetration, but not subjected to a tensile force; .

10 EXAMPLE I

Eye-catching element: (figure 1)

In this embodiment, the hooked ribbon is made by forming a support consisting of a weft composed of multifilament nylon yarns 1 to 12, and a warp composed of multifilament nylon yarns 13 and yarns 14 of an elastic material, natural or synthetic. The weft yarns 2-3, 5-6, 11-9, and 11-12 are placed two by two, one above the other, and the elastic yarn 14 is passed between these pairs of weft yarns and over yarns 11, 41, 7, 10, etc. The yarns on -

During this treatment, the ribbon is stretched without being fully extended so that it becomes perfectly flat. To maintain good elasticity and improve the body of the ribbon, as well as to firmly glue the loops into the background fabric which will become, after cutting, the hooks (ljj to 18_), the ribbon is finished by coating or scraping with a finishing product with permanent elasticity, for example, latex.

During the finishing process, the ribbon is subjected to a specific tension that must be sufficient to prevent it from stretching during the scraping and drying operations. Because the finishing film is almost entirely vulcanized by this treatment, it provides a sufficiently strong bond for the monofilament hooks, while still allowing the ribbon to be stretched and relaxed as desired without any risk of deformation of the hooks or the fabric. To cut the monofilament loops and thus form the hooks, the ribbon is held under tension so that the loops are cut without any difficulty.

The hooked tape shown in Figure 1 can be extended to 100%, so its length can double. Upon examination of Figure 1, it can be seen that when the tape is under tension, the elastic thread L4_ stretches. The ground threads 1_3 and the additional monofilaments 19_, which are not elastic and therefore cannot stretch, are nevertheless pulled in a zigzag pattern between the weft threads 1 to 12_ of the ground, in such a way that, during the extension of the tape, they can flatten and increase in length in the direction of the tension, i.e., also in the direction of the deformation of the hooking or fastening device.

b) Attached element: (figure 2)

The looped support is woven in a manner analogous to the hooked ribbon in Figure 1. The looped ribbon is made by forming a background which includes multifilament nylon weft yarns 20 to 2_8 and warp yarns composed of multifilament nylon yarns 2_9, 29a and 29b and elastic yarns _30, natural or synthetic.

The following weft threads 22 and 23 are placed side by side, above weft thread 24, etc. The ground warp threads 29a and 29a are drawn in a zigzag pattern around weft threads 20 to 28, ground thread 29b also being drawn in a zigzag pattern around weft threads 20 to 28, but always passing over the two adjacent weft threads 22, 23, 2J+, 25, etc. Loops 31 to 36 are formed using the additional warp threads 37a and 37b, which are pile threads drawn in a zigzag pattern between weft threads 20 to 28 and span the elastic threads 30.

During finishing, this ribbon, like the hooked ribbon, also undergoes heat treatment. Then, the loops 3JL formed using monofilaments 37_, 37a, and 37b, and the base consisting of weft yarns 2_0 to 2_8 and warp yarns 29_, 29a, 29b, and 30, are sizing for the application of an elastic primer to the back of the substrate, as with the hooked substrate. The looped substrate just described exhibits elastic characteristics that may be equal to or different from those of the hooked substrate described with reference to Figure 1. Since the elastic yarn can stretch and the warp yarns are woven in a zigzag pattern, the looped substrate could also stretch to 100% for the same reasons as the hooked substrate. If we assume that the loop support and the hook support are placed in a position of interpenetration, and then subjected to tension, they will undergo, under the effect of the applied tension, an elongation proportional to the tensile force, and the loops and hooks in the interpenetration position will always remain practically opposite each other and will not be subjected to any detrimental stress. They will therefore remain mutually and firmly attached.

EXAMPLE II

The device described in Example I exhibits elasticity in only one direction, i.e., 35 along the warp, which is quite sufficient for common applications. However, it is possible, without any difficulty for a skilled person, to weave with elastic weft threads or threads drawn in a zigzag pattern over the warp threads, thus obtaining elastic properties in two directions.

Such an achievement is schematically represented in figures 3, *+ and 5, in which the arrows F indicate the longitudinal traction directions while the arrows F-^ indicate the transverse traction directions.

We could similarly create such attachment and closure devices with a multi-directional degree of elasticity.

EXAMPLE III

This example III relates to the execution of a hanging device in the form of a 30 mm wide ribbon 15 and exhibiting good longitudinal elasticity.

a) Eye-catching element: (figures 6, 7 and 8)

In this embodiment, the double bottom chain is formed by a first chain composed of 160 multi-strand polyamide yarns of 140 denier, 600 T/Z - 400 T/S, and a second 20 chain composed of 37 synthetic rubber yarns of 2,300 m/Kg.

The pile warp consists of 35 monofilament polyamide yarns with a diameter of 0.18 mm. The weft yarn is made of a 200 denier multi-strand polyamide yarn, normally 25200 T/Z. In this design, the warp ratio for a complete sliver is as follows:

Regarding the weave pattern of the fabric, it should be noted that the bonding of the ground threads, elastic threads, and pile threads was specifically designed to give the ribbon optimal elasticity—that is, a compromise between sufficient elasticity and the need to maintain the correct shape and position of the monofilament loops. This ribbon thus features loops that are well-opened and positioned laterally on the ground fabric, that is, perpendicularly or obliquely to the ribbon's longitudinal axis.

This provision facilitates the subsequent processing of loops by any thermal, mechanical or other means in order to make them eye-catching elements.

The weave ratio of the hair threads is 6, thus ensuring a very firm bond in the background fabric.

This W-shaped connection simultaneously offers great flexibility to the fabric, meaning the possibility of relaxing and then easily and completely returning to its original shape and dimensions.

In the example described, the elasticity obtained after weaving is optimal.

Figure 6 represents a chain cross-section of the ribbon in which we can recognize the multi-strand polyamide ground yarns 4_2, the elastic yarns 4_3_, the monofilament polyamide pile yarns 4_4 and the multi-strand polyamide weft yarns 45.

b) Attached element: (figures 9, 10 and 11).

The double bottom chain is formed by a first chain composed of 160 multi-strand polyamide yarns of 140 denier, 600 T/Z - 400 T/S, and a second chain composed of 34 synthetic rubber yarns of 3.030 m/Kg.

The pile warp is composed of 34 90 denier, 200 T/Z yarns. The weft yarn, as well as the hook element, is made of a multi-strand polyamide yarn of 200 denier, normal 200 T/S.

In this execution, the chain ratio for a complete ribbon is understood as follows:

Unlike the retraction method for the hook tape, no bottom wire is passed between the lifting parts of the gas struts. Thus, the loops of this tape only locally cross over the respective temporary supports.

As for the carding (cardboard) of the fabric weave, it will be noted that the connection of the ground threads, the 30 elastic threads and the pile threads has also been sought to give the ribbon optimal elasticity, as shown for the hook element.

Particular attention was paid to forming a well-filled and fluffy hair surface in order to obtain a high 35% gripping capacity with respect to the hooking element.

The ratio of the weave of the hair threads is 4 and 5 between the loops formed by the same thread, from which it follows that there is always a W-shaped bond of the hair threads in the background.

Through the specially sought compactness of the fabric and also through the position of the weft threads in the background, the bond

It is interesting to note that the relationship between the tensions of the elastic yarn warp, respectively at warping and weaving, is of paramount importance in both the hooked element and the hooked element.

15 In the example chosen, this relation condition is established in the following way; we start first from the principle that the elastic wire, in this case synthetic rubber wires, has a tension on the spool considered as unit tension symbolically represented by 1.

20 At the same time, we consider that the elastic wire has been wound without elongation, or in other words that the elongation of the wound elastic wire is negligible, that is to say zero.

The warping of the elastic chain is, in this case, carried out with tension applied in the ratio 2.8:1,

2.5, that is to say, an elongation of 2.8 is obtained on the warp beam. The elastic warp woven with such an elongation then works on the loom under a tension in the true ratio of 1.15:1, which therefore corresponds to obtaining a warp length of 1.15 m for one meter of

We can obviously, depending on the needs, change the tension or elongation ratios considering that, on the other hand, the elasticity of the fabric thus obtained is also significantly influenced by the chosen weaving.

3 5 XI It goes without saying that the woven products thus produced under exceptional conditions and purposes can subsequently be treated for finishing and preparation operations by means and products known in the textile industry.

the characteristics of the fastening device in question based on acquired experience and on practically perfect results.

On the other hand, it is possible to use, instead of the hook tape 5, a rubber or synthetic material support made by stamping and having a multitude of protuberances, for example mushrooms which can come to hang in the loops of the astracan tape described in reference to figure 2.

10 On the other hand, the looped ribbon can be made

using a rubber or synthetic material backing identical to that bearing the protrusions, and to wrap or adhere loops to it. In the case of an embodiment in which the loops and hooks or mushrooms are made of metal, it is possible to produce the ribbons by stamping or by stockpiling, that is to say, the metal loops and hooks would be projected onto the backing, for example,

by a magnetic process. A felting process similar to that used in carpet manufacturing can also be applied, where, for example, loops and hooks would be pricked onto a woven elastic support or onto a grid of rubber or synthetic material.

Connecting devices made with a rubber or synthetic material backing and metal fastening elements can, of course, be subjected to much greater forces than a device made by weaving intended, for example, to connect drive belts or to attach tarpaulins to a vehicle. The elements of the fastening device could then be fixed to the parts to be connected by riveting, screwing, or any other suitable means.

The means described above have been cited only as examples. It is evident that male and/or female attachment supports can be made by infinitely variable means provided that the support, in whatever suitable material it may be, exhibits elasticity and that at least one of its faces has attachment elements and/or attached elements such that two such supports, when superimposed and pressed, are firmly joined and retain good elastic deformability in at least one direction.

As a result, such substrates can be produced not only by weaving but also by pressing, laminating, extraction, injection, projection, needle punching, knitting, flocking, etc. Any suitable natural or synthetic material can also be used.

In all these cases, in the direction(s) of elastic deformation, or elongation respectively, the constituent supports will behave as schematically shown in Figures 1 and 5, respectively in their position before and after being subjected to a tensile force. Practically speaking, the gap P between two adjacent fastening elements (Figure 4) will become, after elastic deformation, P-P, it being understood that after cessation of tensile stresses, said gap will automatically return to the value P. It follows that the relative position of the fastening and attached elements, respectively of each support of the considered elastic fastening or closure device, will remain practically constant and, in any case, within acceptable deformation limits, that is to say, without a reduction, or without a detrimental reduction, of the fastening force of the fastening elements.

■ The invention also extends to all applications of such fastening and closing devices respectively.

Claims (1)

DEMANDS. 1.- A fastening device formed of two supports provided with fastening elements intended to be brought into a relationship of interpenetration when the two supports are pressed against each other, characterized in that it is made in such a way that at least one of said supports has elastic properties in at least one direction. 2.- Device according to claim 1, characterized in that the supports carrying the hooking elements and/or the hooked elements have unidirectional elastic properties. 3.- Device according to one of claims 1 or 2, characterized in that the supports have bidirectional elastic properties. 4-.- Device according to one of claims 1 or 2 characterized in that the supports have multidirectional elastic properties. 5.- Device according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the two supports with their hooking and/or hooked elements have practically identical elastic properties. 6.- Device according to any one of claims 1 to 4, characterized in that the two supports with their hooking and/or hooked elements have different elastic properties, one of which may even have practically zero elasticity. 7.- Device according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the elasticity of the supports is determined by the characteristics of their constituent material. 8.- Device according to any one of claims 1 to 6, characterized in that the elasticity of the supports is determined by their method of manufacture. 9.- Device according to any one of claims 1 to 6, characterized in that the elasticity of the supports is determined by a combination of elastic elements and elements having less or practically zero elasticity, but conditioned so as to be able to deform simultaneously with the elongation deformations of said elastic elements. 10. Device according to claim 1, in the- where the attachment elements are loops and hooks, characterized in that each support is in the form of an elastic woven background, capable of stretching, the additional warp threads forming the loops or hooks being 5 pulled in a zig-zag pattern between the weft threads and having a length approximately double that of the relaxed support. 11.- Device according to claim 1 or 10, characterized in that the warp threads of the supports comprise elastic threads and generally non-elastic threads. 10 in a zig-zag pattern around the weft threads, which have a length approximately significantly greater, for example double, than that of the relaxed supports. 12. A device according to claims 1, 10 and 11, characterized in that the weft yarns comprise yarns 15 elastics and generally non-elastic threads interposed in the mass of warp threads, having a significantly greater length, for example double that of the relaxed element. 13.- Attachment device according to claim 1, 20 characterized in that the hanging supports and the hung supports are made by weaving and comprise at least three warps, respectively a warp of synthetic yarns, a warp of elastic yarns, a warp of hairs formed by synthetic yarns, the weft also being made of synthetic yarns. 2 5 14.- Device according to claim 13, characterized in that the double base chain is formed by a first chain of multi-strand polyamide yarns and a second chain composed of synthetic rubber yarns. 15. Device according to claim 14, characterized 30 in that the double bottom chain is formed by a first chain composed of 160 multi-strand polyamide yarns of 140 denier 600 T/Z, 400 T/S and a second chain composed of 37 synthetic rubber yarns. 16.
