Abstract

This is a process that allows the cactus of the Opuntia ficus indica variety to be valorized in order to ultimately extract a bio-flocculant that will serve as an alternative to the chemicals used in the coagulation-flocculation stage in physicochemical water treatment. Indeed, our natural flocculant has an effectiveness comparable to that of industrial chemical flocculants (Polyacrylamides, etc.) and chemical coagulants (Aluminum sulfates - ferric chlorides, etc.) (see patent: Filing No. 31006, 2008, Morocco). The natural bio-flocculant offers several advantages over existing chemicals on the market, such as non-toxicity, biodegradability and availability. The invention relates to a process consisting of a series of unit operations ranging from the raw material "cactus" to the finished product (bio-flocculant) under technically and economically feasible conditions. The general process is based on the supply and storage of the raw material, the preparation of the rackets, then comes the grinding and filtration stage, and finally the centrifugation and extraction to obtain a bioflocculant intended for direct use or for conservation and storage.
