Lexington Considers Bonus For City Employees (thenews-gazette.com) β Lexington City Council is set to vote July 2 on a revised plan to give full-time city employees a $1,500 loyalty bonus funded from city general and utility funds. School employees will still receive bonuses, but those will now come entirely from the recently approved state budget, eliminating the need for extra city money for Lexington City Schools staff. Β Β Β
2. Body found of Lexington man who disappeared while traveling in Peru, family says (29news.com) β A 29-year-old man from Lexington, Ian Treger, has been found dead in Peru after disappearing during a solo hiking trip in May, his family announced. Relatives thanked U.S. and Peruvian authorities and volunteers for their search efforts and asked for privacy as they grieve, saying they will share memorial details with the community when they are ready. Β Β Β
3. Local Recovery Program Statewide Model (thenews-gazette.com) β A regional recovery partnership that includes Lexington, Buena Vista and Rockbridge County has been hailed as a statewide model and awarded an $812,000 grant by Virginiaβs Opioid Abatement Authority. Rockbridge Recoveryβs approach links local governments, courts, law enforcement and peer specialists to create a coordinated continuum of care, expanding housing, transportation and support services for people facing addiction in and around Lexington. Β Β Β
4. Vania Blaiklock (wlu.edu) β Lexingtonβs Washington and Lee School of Law has welcomed Professor Vania Blaiklock, an expert in constitutional, education, and law-and-religion issues. Her scholarship focuses on how race, religion, and schooling shape American constitutional law and Black political advancement, bringing nationally recognized research experience to students studying right here in town. Β Β Β
