World War 28mm

Yes folks more World War II I’m afraid, up scale this time though. Continued progress with the Emptress Miniatures British Paratroopers.

Still more needed to complete the platoon but I couldn’t resist letting their German opponents jump the paratrooper queue with these from the recent Empress Miniatures, Kampfgruppe Arnheim Hickstarter (sic)

Recently back from a splendid Indian Mutiny game over at GHQ, look out for Dave's report in the next few days.

Off to hunker down ready for storm what's it's name, TTFN & KBO

Orders? What Orders?

Just so I didn't get too complacent the dice gods gave me another kicking in our last game of 2025 today to make sure.

A fairly static game the slow pace of the German advance gave the British time to form a strong defensive position which became increasingly difficult for the Germans to overcome. Although the German morale was holding it was obvious that any assault would result in unacceptable losses, a tactical withdrawal was ordered giving the British a tactical victory.
That is all from OHQ in 2025 see you in 2026 at some point
Happy New Year & KBO!

You Guessed

Yes more World War 20mm to end the year here on the OHQ blog. No game this week, a little something called Christmas intervenes.
The last of the Matilda IIs to finish the troop. Lancer Miniatures resin and metal.
Daimler "Dingo" Ready to Roll resin piece.
Austin "Tilly" a one piece resin from Millicast.
A Light Dragon tow, a resin piece from Early War Miniatures.
Currently under the brush are three Vickers light tanks that I hope to complete over Christmas. Speaking of which leaves me just to wish all my visitors and especially those who take their precious time to leave an encouraging comment along the the way a very happy and peaceful Christmas.

Until next time make merry and KBO.

Currently in progress is another Matilda to complete the troop, a Dingo armoured car, a light Dragon tow for the 2pdr and an Austin "Tilly" for the British FHQ.

More World War 20mm

First up German vehicles for 1940
Opel Blitz truck from the Ready To Roll range.
Panzerjaeger I from Early War Miniatures. I believe this has the modified superstructure with five panels introduced in 1941. However I have the model and I will use it regardless.
Moving on to later in the war more figures for Wacht Am Rhein and Spring Awakening games.
MMG team with figures from Plana Mayor Miniatures.
Panzerjaeger because one can never have enough panzerfausts. Again figures from Plana Mayor Miniatures.
Until next time happy gaming and KBO!

The Bridgehead

Lead elements of a German Battlegroup have managed to capture an intact bridge across a not impassable but troublesome river. They intend to hold the position until the rest of the Battlegroup arrive however reports from aerial reconnaissance say that the Soviets have a force enroute to push back the Germans before reinforcement arrives.
The Sdkfz222 takes up position on the bridge with a MMG team and infantry squad in the nearby field and a PAK38 in the ruined building in support.
The Soviets are not long in arriving.
The T34s swing into action the PAK38 surviving a near miss.
Meanwhile on the Soviet left they launch a diversionary attack towards the hill.
A Sdkfz7 mounting a 20mm flakvierling arrives and takes up position against any incursion by the VVS.
It doesn't take long for it to fire in anger an IL2 "Sturmovik" zooms in with a timed air strike. The cannon barrels roar and the attacker is driven off!
Things are not going so well on the German left a Stug receives a glancing hit from HE fire which rattles the crew and they abandon the vehicle!
Where did that come from? A 76mm infantry gun! Really?
Things are looking dicey for the Germans, there was once a PAK38.
Those pesky T34s!
How soon the fortunes of war turn though. A T34 is stopped in its tracks.
The fight isn't all going one way though the German infantry in the field are pinned by mortar fire.
Another T34 has taken advantage and turned the German left and takes a side shot at the victorious Stug but misses! The Stug turns and fires and doesn't
Over on the German right the diversionry  attack isn't faring well. Combined fire cuts down the Soviet infantry attempting to cross the open ground.
The remaining T34 is also taken out, this spells the end of the Soviet thrust who are only one counter away from exceeding their Battle Rating anyway.
A cracking game fought over five turns with two hours of play, more than enough time for us older gentlemen.
Until next time happy gaming and KBO.
