Palestine 36 (2025)

“We are trying to crush a rebellion that is bent on destroying us.” Captain Wingate

Number of Times Seen – 1 (2 Jan 2026)

Brief Synopsis – As Arab villages revolt against the rule of the British Empire in 1936, a young man must decide between being loyal to his past or his future.

My Take on it – This is a film that due to the fact that it deals with subject matter that is theoretically in the daily headlines, people will believe it more than they truly should. The story told here is filled with lots of misconstrued facts and tells things in a very one sided fashion. There are claims made by characters that are not true at all and they bring no backing to try and prove things. The characters are shown to be solely subjugated by the British when in fact many of the aspects described here were enacted upon ALL of the inhabitants of the country at the time and not only on one group of people. The Peel Commission and its suggestions were not accepted by both sides and the claims that it was an unfair decision on only one side is also a false claim, but it shows how one side has always been willing to find compromise over strife despite both sides claiming the other have no rights what so ever.  I won’t be surprised if this film is nominated for an Oscar for Best International film and wouldn’t be surprised if it also manage dto win due to politics instaed of it being the best among the films in the mix since there are some excellent choices among the 15 shortliseted films this year.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Official submission of Palestine for the ‘Best International Feature Film’ category of the 98th Academy Awards in 2026. (From IMDB)

Rating – Razzie Worthy (3/10)
