America’s Sweethearts (2001)

“I really want to play a character like the Terminator, you know, because I think the Hispanic people are crying out to see a deadly, destructive, killing machine that they can embrace as their own, you know, that they can relate to..” – Hector

Number of Times Seen – 1 (26 Mar 2023)

Brief Synopsis – A publicist tries to get a famous Hollywood couple to promote their new film together despite the fact that they are in the midst of a messy divorce.

My Take on it – This is a movie that I had expected to enjoy more given the fact that Billy Crystal was one of the writers. Unfortunately, this film is horrendous and fails to do anything to make the viewer care about these characters because none of them are truly nice. The cast is great with John Cusack, Julia Roberts, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Crystal himself, but none of them do anything to help make this story more engaging at all. The jokes mostly fall flat, but I did like a few of the shout-outs to previous Crystal films.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Billy Crystal had written the part of Eddie for himself years ago, but Joe Roth persuaded Crystal to take on the role of Lee the publicist, as he felt Crystal was too old to play the part by then. (From IMDB)

Rating – Razzie Worthy (3/10)
