Number of Times Seen – 1 (9 Nov 2014)
Brief Synopsis – Epic tale of the rise in stature of an American priest over the course of 40 years.
My Take on it – Otto Preminger was an amazing director and this is yet another example of his exceptional directorial skills.
Due to its epic scale, this movie is a bit too long and the first half drags on a bit, but the second half clearly makes up for it by using the previous events to piece together a great climax and finale.
This movie tells a very interesting tale which time has caused it to get less recognition that it probably deserves.
I assume that someone who understsnds the Catholic faith (unlike I do) will probably enjoy this film even more thsn I could.
Bottom Line -Preminger tells an epic tale that is more under appreciated that it probably should be. Those more familiar with the Catholic religion probably will get even more out of this than those of us who don’t. Recommended!
Rating – Globe Worthy
