Eldar - (subset of) The army going onto the auction block

With GenCon rapidly approaching, and the unexpected cost of a new pair of glasses cropping up last week, it's time to put the Eldar up for sale. I'd been waffling about what exactly was going up on the block as I did want to keep a small allied contingent for my guard. I finally settled on what that would be (Bonesinger, Wraithblades, Corsairs and the Crimson Hunter) but the rest is getting the chop. I went through and snapped a new set of pics of what all will be up for sale over the next couple days, and figured I'd share 'em here:

HQ
Farseer

Spiritseer

Warlock Council

ELITES
Fire Dragons

Striking Scorpions

TROOPS
Dire Avengers

Guardian Defenders

FAST ATTACK
Warp Spiders

HEAVY SUPPORT
Falcon

Wraithlord

Wraithknight

DEDICATED TRANSPORTS
Wave Serpent 1

Wave Serpent 2

APOCALYPSE
Tempest

All in all I really had a blast painting this army, all the various color schemes helped to stave off Army Painter's Fatigue and it was surprisingly easy to stay on task and keep cranking them out. Expect to see a lot more Hobby ADHD over the next few months as I ricochet crazily around the half dozen other projects that lurk within the Closet of Doom!

Eldar - Dire Avengers Painted

Had a surprisingly free Saturday for a change, and I was able to take advantage of the relatively cool morning to finish off the Dire Avengers!

I took a couple pictures, but the white-background ones completely blew out the white on the models. So back to the old-school picture style (which to be honest I prefer)! Painting all the little gems was a chore, I found that on average each one had about 25. Oof!

I've started laying down the base colors on the Warp Spiders, but nothing worth taking pictures of. I'm hoping to have them finished by the end of the weekend though!

Eldar - Dire Avengers painting in process

Popped home for lunch and snapped a quick pic of the Dire Avengers in process while I had some good light. I went with a brighter blue than the Guardians to help differentiate them as an aspect warrior unit rather than just another Alaitoc squad.

Still quite a bit of highlighting, detailing and basing to do of course, and I'm considering how I ought to finish of the helmet crests - I'm torn between leaving them solid yellow as-is, or perhaps adding some black (or possibly red) stripes to them as shown in the codex. Thoughts? Once these are done I think it'll be time to bite the bullet and start in on the Warp Spiders - definitely time to do something other than blue and yellow!

TOEMP #6 - Back to Basics. ...Well, Elites.

Back during challenge #4 for the Tale of Even More Painters, I'd finished building a squad of Storm Troopers utilizing bits from the Marine Scout and Storm models, various Cadian bits, some Forge World heads and the odd length of guitar string. Following my brief foray into the Eldar, I figured that I'd swing back over to the guard for a unit and painted them up:

I enjoyed using the Scouts from the Land Speeder Storm kit - they afforded some interesting poses, I particularly liked building the trooper who's vaulting over a section of wall. I'm not 100% happy with the hellguns however, in retrospect I think I should have utilized the shotguns that come with the scouts as the basis for the weapon as they would have turned out a bit beefier. To make up for it, I added chainswords to various models to remind me that they do in fact carry both a pistol and a CCW.

Part of the current challenge is to utilize a technique that you don't ordinarily try. Since I need the guard to look as uniform as possible, I figured I'd try something new on a Dire Avengers squad instead. First off I primered the models white, which is something that I haven't done in the better part of 20 years! I decided that I'd also go with an ink wash base which is rather atypical as well - I don't use a lot of washes, mostly just on metallics.

It should be interesting to see how they turn out, nonetheless!
