DISCONCERTING DAYS

I'd like to sleep through these days, like a lazy cat.

Okay, let's get to the point (which is unusual for me to do).

In my previous post I was talking about the extremely annoying talkative woman who visits my roommate.

I casually admitted that I could gleefully and guiltlessly kill her with my bare hands.

This admission might have flustered some of you. I assure you that cold blooded murder is only my fantasy - - not my absolute intention.

My humor is often cruel, wicked, offensive, brutal, sarcastic, and unfunny. It's part of my charm.

Look back at your lives, my good people. There must have been someone you'd like to kill. Admit it.

So

My roommate's wife visits every day, breathlessly talking incessantly. I ordered ear plugs from Walmart. They help expunge her existence.

My roommate (Leo) is at least partially senile. He doesn't say a word, while she babbles on for hours. I imagine she drove him to senility.

Roommate Leo has an annoying habit.

I am a very private person, which is an impossibility in a hospital environment. I try to keep the curtain between beds closed.

Roommate Leo has learned to reach over and open the curtains. Then he just stares at me. Sometimes for hours.

This is extremely disconcerting. I can't close the curtains because I can't reach them.

I'm afraid to use the urinal. I don't want anyone watching me pee.

Well, today he's watching TV. That's much more interesting than watching me.

Leo, four feet away from me.

On to other things.

The wound under my left ankle is getting worse. It started as a pressure sore long ago. Now it's a massive, horrifying deep wound that drains and doesn't heal. The pain is beyond excrutiating. Xrays were taken last Tuesday. I haven't yet heard the results. I'm taking strong antibiotics. Hope they will help.

Intermission

I had to stop writing because I got an ocular migraine. I get them frequently. Half an hour of rest usually helps to expunge them.

And lunch was served. This time I was stunned. A hearty beef stew, which was very good (but small portion).

Speaking of food

I disliked the food that was served at Signature Health Care, and I'm disgusted with most of the food here at Waters Rehab.
During the past miserable year, I lost an alarming amount of weight.
SO

I'm now ordering food from Walmart. Unfortunately, they only ship non-perishable food here, because the closest Walmart is 30 miles away.
Two days ago I got packets of tuna and a loaf of bread (they only ship certain brands).

Astounding photos

And I made crude sandwiches. Better than nothing.

I'm also eating lots of peanut butter. Pure peanuts blended with plant protein. Tastes a little grainy, but it's nutritious. I love to eat it on Keebler chocolate-covered  shortbread cookies.

I have plans for making more secret meals.

SO
I am still very deeply depressed because the wound on my ankle, my painful swollen knee, and my nearly paralysed left leg are keeping me from physical therapy. I'm trapped in a nightmare....and the longer I wait, the worse it will be.

Weather report. Getting chilly here in Gainesboro. 19 degrees (Fahrenheit) two nights ago and snow flurries.

AND THE GRAND FINALE

To keep my sanity, I'm still buying genuine items from ancient Egypt. I buy them from an archeologist in Canada.
This arrived today. Hand carved in stone. It's an Egyptian amulet, called the Holly Owl - - symbol of wisdom.

Photos are rather bad, but you can see the incredible details that still exist on a statue so old.

Thanks for reading this. I truly love all of you.

Jon ❤️
Collector of antiquities.

A special big thank you to Dorothy from NH. I got your card today and the sentiments that you wrote are beautiful. ๐Ÿ’š

P.S. I took better photos of the owl, which I'll include in my next post.  ๐Ÿฆ‰๐Ÿฆ‰๐Ÿฆ‰
I'll bet you can't wait.

  1. That owl is lovely. And you're ingenious at finding more edible food than what's on offer. I wish you had privacy.

    1. I was intrigued by the owl,
with her whimsical face. I'm discovering more food I can get from Walmart. I wish I had a private room, like I did in Signature. This place is crowded and no single rooms exist. ๐ŸคŽ

  2. That amulet is a beautiful find! I'm so glad your imagination -- and ingenuity keeps you from lolling away the hours (like that image of poor Leo). The tuna and protein PB sound like great choices v. what's served. Far fetched, perhaps, but is there any way you could charm your roommate's wife into picking you up any perishables?
I've no thoughts about the ankle, but you're definitely in my prayers.

    1. My imagination is rampant every day. I'm glad that I'm continuing my blogging - I enjoy it. I'm finding more unperishable food to buy. I need to supplement the horrid food served here.
My roommate's wife scares me. She's not the type person to help others.
I apppreciate yoir prayers, Myra. Hugs ๐Ÿงก

  3. Thanks, Jon, for letting me know that the card arrived and, of course, you are welcome. It’s just a small gesture, but I truly believe that sending a card or note to someone can improve the day, which is why despite the USPS increasing postal rates, I will continue to send them. Good to read that you are able to get some outside food deliveries. Peanut butter is a favorite in our home, dven by the spoonfull.

    1. Receiving cards can put sunshine in a gloomy day. Your card arrived with my Egyptian owl amulet.
Peanut butter has a lot of nutrition and I need it. When I was home, I ate peanut butter on Ritz Crackers for breakfast.

  4. Good for the tuna and peanut butter. The more protein the better with healing. The owl is awesome. You have quite the antiquities collections. I hope all are in safe keeping in that "quesitonalbe" healthcare facility. Those pics of your unit brought back memories. I was about ready to throw that stethoscope. That roommate sounds like a challenge and the wifey.... beyond a challenge. These people have zero insight. Thank God for earplugs!
The temps here are Arctic. I spent the afternoon around Huntington Beach, Bay Village. Not far from home. You can google that to get an idea. Lake Erie is beautiful in the winter.... but brutal with that Canadian wind blowing off the lake. Yikes! The wind chills here Tues. are to be around -22.
Take care. I hope that ankle wound turns the corner! Those wounds can be extremely painful. Are you on IV antibiotics?

    1. I contacted one of the Big Wigs at Signature Health Care a few weeks ago. They will hold all my items until I am home. They marked my name on everything and put it in a store room.
As for food, I'm eating lots of peanut butter, canned fish and meats, bread, dried fruit, etc. There's quite a variety.
When you said Huntington Beach, I thought of Calif.
I will Google those places in your area. Wind chill -22 wow it's like the North Pole!
The "wound" on my ankle is really unnerving. I"m on oral antibiotics, not IV.
Always good to hear ftom you.

    2. I Googled the places you mention. It really looks beautiful there, but I'm sure it's brutal in winter. ☃️❄️☃️

  5. "throw that stethoscope AROUND MY NECK". I guess I've just 'thrown' a few in my day, too!

You can watch a short video. I spend a lot of time here, esp. in the warmer months.
Keep up the high protein from Walmart. God knows it's far superior to what they're dishing out there from what I can see.
We're having intense snow squalls and white outs here all morning. Winter in Ohio. The temps are frigid/Arctic...at best.
Keep warm and earplugs close at hand as Chatty Cathy will no doubt be barreling in soon.

    1. I watched several videos. Such a wonderful gift of nature. It must be beautiful in autumn.
Winter has a wicked bite where you are. Stay warm and cozy.

    2. Yes Jon, that area is beautiful. I love Bay Village and spend a lot of time there.
It's a pricey community, so don't live there. Damn. The famous Sam Shepard murder happened there. He was a physician there in the 1950's. You can google it. It was huge news for Cleveland at the time. I vaguely remember my parents talking about it was I was very little. He worked at Bay Village Hospital, which is now a high-end condo overlooking Lake Erie. His wife was found murdered at their home up the street (I walk by where is used to stand all the time). Rumor was he was having an affair with a nurse or lab tech at the hospital. Anyway, he was found guilty and sent to prison. All that stuff is on the internet. Interesting.
Wind chill tomorrow is to be -20 degrees. It's called a stay-at-home day.
Hope the weather is better down yonder. It's crap up here.

Jon, it might be a little expensive but it might be worth it. DoorDash is in Gainesboro and delivers from restaurants there. Take care, Gabrielle

    2. Well, I accidentally deleted my reply. I'll try again.
I had no idea that DoorDash was in Gainesboro, nor did I know there were so many restaurants in this small town. Unfortunately, Waters Rehab has a lot of rules and they might not allow it. I have to keep my Walmart food a secret.
I really appreciate your help, Gabrielle, and it's good to hear from you.

I love comments. Go ahead and leave one - I won't bite. But make sure you have a rabies shot just in case.
