  • Early 40s and stress has absolutely grayed my hair. Or, bleached it, rather, since I’m a redhead. Mostly my beard and chest hair, strangely enough.

The hair on my head has a sprinkling of white but mostly kept its color. My beard looks blond now, as there’s more white hair in it than red. My chest hair just looks thinner than it actually is because all the white hair disappears against my pasty-ass skin. 🤣

The graying/whitening started in my late 20s / early 30s during a very high stress time, and seems to have slowed or stopped mostly in the last few years.

Funny thing, graying doesn’t happen evenly. At one point in my mid-30s I had a full beard; one side of my face was red hair, the other side was all white. Thankfully that’s rectified itself in the intervening years.

That being said, I do think EGS is going the correct route by investing in games / unique games and locking them into their platform.

I strongly disagree. I quit consoles because of the exclusivity nonsense, and EGS guaranteed I will never buy anything from them by doing that shit. I won’t even redeem free games on their platform via Prime Gaming, just on principle.

You compete by giving devs and publishers a better cut, or convincing them to do deeper sales on your platform. You compete by providing a better service to users. You do not compete by literally not competing.

  • I’m enjoying it. I bounced off the game the first time I played as I was expecting maybe a more traditional Final Fantasy experience and it didn’t click with me. I’ve played a few souls-likes since and the gameplay is meshing better for me now, though it’s still difficult at times.

Combat is enjoyable, but the gear filtering and management is kind of annoying.

I’ve read it’s similar to Nioh’s gameplay but I’m not familiar with that one.

  • Being wealthy just means you don’t need to overly worry about money. I’m wealthy, but I hate the system and how the world is doing.

This. I make low six figures and support myself and my spouse on a single income. We’ve had to be careful in choosing where to live, how much house to buy and all that. I’m not baller, but I’m comfortable. Amenities are fine and I pay my bills without much thought. I’m working toward retirement.

That’s a reasonable amount of wealth for most. The problem is there are people with so much wealth it provides them the means to manipulate society in sweeping gestures.

    • Don’t like the news? buy the media outlet.
    • Want unfairly low taxes? Bribe a politician or 50 of them. (Oh, sorry, “lobby” them)
    • Politician is against you? Fully fund their opponent’s campaign and now they owe you.
    • Another company competing with you? Buy them.
    • etc.

Also, while insider trading is illegal, someone with this much wealth, influence, and power can’t help but have inside information just for existing in the circles they do, and wealth leads to greater wealth simply because there’s no way to regulate it reasonably.

This happened to me with three games:

    • Hollow Knight
    • Steamworld Heist
    • Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin

In each case the game just didn’t gel with me on the initial play, even if I could objectively tell it was a quality game.

Currently playing through Stranger of Paradise again now. I think I expected a more traditionally “Final Fantasy” game my first time through and dropped it at 10 hours. Started fresh recently and am tearing past where I was and playing it enthusiastically now, it’s a lot of fun.

I’ve played some souls-like games in the interim which helped with the general gameplay loop and control scheme. Also have upgraded hardware since my first run, which makes a big difference as the game was previously a shimmery mess full of slowdowns.
