tomalley8342to Games•How long until the rise of games with mods turns into user created games.English4·10 days agoMore and more games seem to suck on thier own, but can be great with mods.
But back then, modded games weren’t anywhere near as common as they are now.
What are you talking about? What new games with proper modding tools are there? Nobody wants to mod Starfield compared to Skyrim, Most of you probably don’t even know that there are modding tools out for Doom Eternal. CS server mods were effectively neutered by CS2’s matchmaking and skins store. There’s gooner mods for Capcom games and VR plugins I guess. Indie game engines ate the modding community’s lunch.
tomalley8342to Technology•Linux kernel czar says AI bug reports aren't slop anymoreEnglish82·11 days agoMakes sense that a properly balanced model with randomization turned down should be able to recognize when something is being done outside the acceptable parameters.
I don’t know how you gathered such a sense when that not being true has been the main laughing point for AI since its inception. Meta AI security and safety researcher Summer Yue’s “Nothing humbles you like telling your OpenClaw ‘confirm before acting’ and watching it speedrun deleting your inbox” was just last month btw.

I don’t know how you can convince yourself that the Powers That Be is so powerful that it can just ram age verification through, but weak enough to be stopped in its tracks right afterwards by this lesser implementation by this one state. I guess you must imagine it working like the bear circle in spongebob lol.
tomalley8342to Linux@lemmy.ml•what do you think hypervisor cracks will do to linux gaming?5·19 days agoBethesda, Square Enix, and Capcom usually do that, but it’s not a rule.
From what I understand you have to find when the enemy is vulnerable after launching an attack so that you can safely launch your own attacks. Dark Souls 1 and 3 are relatively generous with their safe windows and relatively rigid with their attack combos so it’s a lot more accessible to that kind of gameplay than later games like Elden Ring and Bloodborne.

An AI slop filter over your gameEnglish6·24 days agoI always wondered why samsung phones and tvs had that “vivid” high contrast color tuning turned on by default that just blows out the contrast and saturation. I thought surely no one actually prefers this kind of look. Reading some of the comments on here and on youtube, now I understand.

It is probably because you have been using the exact talking points used by people who are against ped infrastructure.
You have to learn to let go brother. It’s not healthy
Trying to pin down a DNA makeup to blame doesn’t really make sense when people who breed these
pit bullsdogs that are colloquially recognized as pit bulls don’t really care about their DNA makeup.
Using constructed and arbitrary categories like breed to tie behavior to looks is silly.
They are constructed and arbitrary but they are enforced by the selective breeding process itself no? That’s like the whole point of selective breeding? To select and influence constructed and arbitrary traits in the genetic lineage? Unless the claim is that the concept of selective breeding itself is ineffective, which is definitely not a take I have heard before.

The added bonus is not having to deal with Sony, or other people, trying to upstream stuff that doesn’t make sense outside of the PS environment and would have questionable value to others.
GPL doesn’t force people to merge back to upstream, and BSD doesn’t have any special way to stop people from trying to upstream. The only difference is that Sony’s PS6 OS fork would have been open source if it were bound by the GPL, which would be an objective benefit.
Peak players is sampled at a point, the 2m number is probably cumulative.

I agree, and in that same vein, Linux really should be AGPL as well.
That’s fair. I am vaguely aware that sim and sandbox games do tend to have mod support. For reference, with a quick search into the 71 games mentioned in the 2025 Game Awards Show, ~5-10 come with significant mod support.
