I looked for something that was similar to river-classic, kwm seemed the most mature one, but they’re all very young of course. it’s heavily inspired on dwm (includes a similar bar too) and the the developer is quite responsive. I do ‘miss’ the riverctl-based way of configuration which I liked in river-classic, I believe only zrwm (https://sr.ht/~zuki/zrwm/) currently does that. I haven’t tried them all yet as some lacked features I need/want.

I’ve been using RSS feeds for youtube channels for a few years. I don’t visit the site if I can help it, I don’t login, I don’t “like & subscribe”, I don’t see any clickbait thumbnails and most important: I don’t see any ads. Just newsboat & mpv.

Good recommendation indeed, the zones of thought are awesome. One of my all time favourites!

I’d go for Alpine Linux in such case.

I’ll interpret non-US a bit broader as non-English. English is hugely dominant in scifi so it’s often hard to find good books in other languages. I’d also love to hear the recommendations of others too! A few I read:

  • “Die Welten der Skiir” trilogy (by Dirk van den Boom): https://bookwyrm.social/book/593373/s/die-welten-der-skiir-1 is really great . He also wrote another trilogy (Die Reise der Scythe) which is also quite nice.
  • “3517 Anno Domini: Wir waren Götter” by Raik Thorstad. Note that his is a primarily an M/M romance, but it has a nice dystopian scifi setting.

I’m using todo.txt, which is a basic plain text file following a simple syntax. I added various extensions to work with this: todo.txt-more, which does things like:

• make things accessible through a simple menu (dmenu/bemenu/rofi) system.
• time tracking functions
• synchronisation with github issues and/or e-mail

As a kooikerhondje owner, I approve of this post :)

I think it’s already pretty amazing we have at least three people with kooikerhondjes on lemmy :) Small steps, hopefully more will join in time.

Do you ever shorten the dog breed name? To what? Kookies?

I most often say “kooikertje” (dutch, diminuitive) or “kooiker” (which technically is wrong because that would refer to the handler rather than the dog, but it’ll have to do :)

It’s not too good. If you’re using it a lot, don’t expect to last a full day. If you don’t do much and have it sleep in the meantime, it’ll be okay.

Yes, I like the whole idea that gave birth to it and the great communities that are building software for it. But having said that, the hardware is fairly weak compared to what most are used to from a smartphone. It also proves quite hard to reliably make use of the modem for basic telephony features. It works… most of the time …
