piratto Music and audio production@lemmy.ml•Audio cable measurements are driving me crazy — why don’t they null?!?1·2 months agoYeah, I wouldn’t spend too much time on this, either. I’m pretty sure a lot of tests like this have already been done in more scientifically valid ways. I haven’t actually watched the video, but it sounds like he should put in some effort to document this thoroughly if it’s real. We can then eventually look into it again. Without that proper evidence, it’s just wasting our time, I think. There are multiple possible sources of failure we can’t rule out, so why should we trust this data? We could make our own tests of multiple cables and setups if we think it’s worth our time, or just find some more trustworthy audio-scientific sources that has already done the testing properly.
Nice. That’s definitely good enough for both of us.

Have we ruled out the possibility that this extra step he (for some reason) took could have affected the signals differently?
Could either be on purpose or by accident, but I think it’s likely to be the case.
Different pre-amp settings could give different results. If not on purpose, it could accidentally happen if a knob got turned a bit, or possibly even if a knob was electrically unstable, thereby drifting in value over time.
Other changes in internal hardware components of the pre-amp could possibly happen caused by changes in temperature or something else (?)
Could the slightly drifting volume value point towards a problem caused by the pre-amp?

I think CoMaps is the better choice.
CoMaps was founded in 2025 by former Organic Maps contributors. The Organic Maps codebase was forked due to concerns about the project’s governance, transparency, and the potential for shareholder profit at the expense of the community. The CoMaps project was created, focusing on privacy, performance and community.

So, is it that neither this nor that is the answer, but that it is the question, unless that is what it is, or what is it?
Well, it is what it is, but, I mean, that is surely not what this is all about, is it really?
If it’s not a Pixel, it’s currently not possible. If you don’t need the security features of GrapheneOS, you could look into LineageOS on a wider range of supported devices.
