I haven’t actually watched the video, but it sounds like he should put in some effort to document this thoroughly if it’s real. We can then eventually look into it again. Without that proper evidence, it’s just wasting our time, I think. There are multiple possible sources of failure we can’t rule out, so why should we trust this data? We could make our own tests of multiple cables and setups if we think it’s worth our time, or just find some more trustworthy audio-scientific sources that has already done the testing properly.

Could either be on purpose or by accident, but I think it’s likely to be the case.
Different pre-amp settings could give different results. If not on purpose, it could accidentally happen if a knob got turned a bit, or possibly even if a knob was electrically unstable, thereby drifting in value over time.
Other changes in internal hardware components of the pre-amp could possibly happen caused by changes in temperature or something else (?)
Could the slightly drifting volume value point towards a problem caused by the pre-amp?
