The lack of any training… that’s new.

So that’s under the Biden administration, for what that’s worth.
halcyoncmdrto AntiTrumpAlliance•Trump is a Russian asset trying to destroy US soft power, international trade relations, and destroy the NATO alliance for the Putin regime.English71·3 months agoAnyone not with their head up their ass saw the numerous warnings from hundreds of organizations and people directly involved in Trump’s life and the evidence that he was literally the Russian asset “Krasnov” back before his first election. This isn’t a revelation to anyone that’s been paying attention. He was impeached for it. Twice. Yet here we are. Indirectly at least, you can’t seriously try and claim that fucking about with Ukraine at all in the midst of Russia trying to annex it is unrelated.
halcyoncmdrto World News•Denmark’s Army Chief Says He’s Ready to Defend Greenland | Danish forces are moving to the island to show NATO—and Trump—that they’re serious about security.English18·3 months agoI get what you’re saying, but the more direct comparison would be to the Chief of Staff of the Army, not the President.
I gotta say, I spent a solid minute on Google Images trying to find a picture that made him look more badass than the professional headshot photo, but a good half of the images are him in readers.

halcyoncmdrto Technology•UK Expands Online Safety Act to Mandate Preemptive Scanning of Digital CommunicationsEnglish15·3 months agoSex is a scapegoat for implementing surveillance and discrimination systems. The same as every “think of the children” law ever passed.
It’s not about the children, it’s about making it impossible for opponents to justify in the 10 second sound bite that the media allows with no further context whatsoever. And that’s all of the media that 90% of people consume.

The bullshit the company spins is just as, if not more, important than the raw numbers. Especially when companies only report mandated info and the raw numbers they’re referencing aren’t disclosed for comparison.
Statistics is the art of making up a narrative you want to show via numbers, and finding a way to say it exists regardless of reality.
halcyoncmdrto Technology•Amazon is forcibly upgrading Prime members to Alexa Plus, and users are not happyEnglish3·3 months agoShareholders are dumb panicky creatures. As long as the numbers aren’t terrible and you say some nice things most of them take it as gospel.
Spinning shit as a positive is a full time career in the corporate world after all.
halcyoncmdrto Technology•Amazon is forcibly upgrading Prime members to Alexa Plus, and users are not happyEnglish7·3 months agoSubscription info is definitely part of the information provided to investors. The raw numbers may not be in the financial documents, but revenue from subscriptions most definitely is and will give a general idea of changes even if the company doesn’t give the numbers directly.
halcyoncmdrto Technology•Amazon is forcibly upgrading Prime members to Alexa Plus, and users are not happyEnglish9·3 months agoYou’re talking internal accountability. That doesn’t apply at this scale.
The accountability here is to shareholders. And they don’t care about why, just quarterly profits and growth.
halcyoncmdrto Technology•Amazon is forcibly upgrading Prime members to Alexa Plus, and users are not happyEnglish19·3 months agoLarge Shareholders some care about how the line goes up, just that it does. Constantly. Every quarter.
halcyoncmdrto News•Live updates: Sen. Mark Kelly sues Pentagon over punishment for warning troops of illegal ordersEnglish54·3 months agoHe will. He just reminded them of what their oath already says, and that it only applies to lawful orders. “Just following orders” does not protect you from prosecution for following illegal orders.
The UCMJ does not define what “lawful” means directly. However, the Rules for Courts-Martial say that an order is lawful, “unless it is contrary to the Constitution, the laws of the United States, or lawful superior orders or for some other reason is beyond the authority of the official issuing it.”
The two oaths, for context:
The Oath of Enlistment (for enlisted):
“I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.”The Oath of Office (for officers):
“I, _____, having been appointed an officer in the _____ (Military Branch) of the United States, as indicated above in the grade of _____ do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign or domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office upon which I am about to enter; So help me God.”
