There’s plenty of other ways to teach that…I’ll bet kids who worked during the industrial revolution had pretty good coordination, too, but we’re not teaching that in schools

glimseto Technology@piefed.social•Zipline came up with silent propellers, I'm surprised this hasn't been picked up more widely by drone manufacturersEnglish1·6 hours ago(sorry if they go into this, I can’t watch the video right now but I know about alternative prop designs on quads)
These things are so awesome for steady, predictable trips but hey lose a lot of appeal for hobbyists because they’re more expensive, fragile, and finicky. And that’s made worse by sizing them down for FPV quads. Don’t want to snap a blade when you’re mid-air and especially not when you’re navigating to your target
I mostly watch British shows. But you’re kind of right about the last part, the last non-english show I watched was the second season of Kongen Befaler and I feel like that doesn’t count.
So, does the US not make some of the best TV shows? Or are you only aware of the sitcoms and reality shows?
glimseto No Stupid Questions•Back in the day the world had The Great Dictator speech speaking the truth. Then came Network with the I am mad as hell. In this era what speech are we going to look back from the future?1·1 day agoI’m jumping on the dog pile to tell you to watch Andor. I am NOT a Star Wars guy but I got talked into this one by a friend who knows my general distaste for the franchise.
It’s fantastic, I really have nothing bad to say about it. It’s not campy like Star Wars, it doesn’t feel rushed, and the stakes a lot more visceral.
It’s also extremely relevant in 2026

Tap for spoiler
There will be times when the struggle seems impossible. I know this already. Alone, unsure, dwarfed by the scale of the enemy.
Remember this, Freedom is a pure idea. It occurs spontaneously and without instruction. Random acts of insurrection are occurring constantly throughout the galaxy. There are whole armies, battalions that have no idea that they’ve already enlisted in the cause.
Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.
And remember this: the Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear.
Remember that. And know this, the day will come when all these skirmishes and battles, these moments of defiance will have flooded the banks of the Empires’s authority and then there will be one too many. One single thing will break the siege.
Remember this: Try.
glimseto Not The Onion•1 In 5 Boys Know Someone Their Age Who's In A Relationship With An AI ChatbotEnglish3·1 day agoI’ll bet it’s more like
1 in 5 boys either knows someone their age who delusionally thinks they’re in a relationship with a chatbot, knows someone who claims they’re dating a chatbot as a joke, or is just fucking around
There’s a non-insignificant chance the boys they surveyed weren’t taking it seriously. “Oh yeah, I totally know someone dating a chatbot”
Those pearls you’re clutching must feel so good right now
You’re already fucked, but your opiates of shitty TV, pissy beer, fast food and the satisfaction that you seem to enjoy when you see people who are really suffering seem to placate you
My god, update your stereotypes. There are SOOO many things to shit in the US for but these make you look uncultured.
The US makes some of the best TV in the world. And unless you’ve got state run media, your country is full of the same trash TV.
I see you’re ignorant to the local breweries all across the country. Do you shit on dutch beer because of Heineken, too?
The fast food thing has some merit because yeah, it’s trash. But American cuisine is as varied as all of Europe. Calling out fast food feels like a nitpick. You’ve got lazy fast food slobs in your country, too.
All of which really makes the last part seem undeservedly arrogant

But the only reason you thought you had to spell it out is because you thought I disagreed. I know our voting system is awful and I hate voting for the lesser of two evils
He, she, his, her…my dad will use each one to refer to the same dog at different times. He’s done this with every dog any of us have ever had. We’ve given up correcting him.
So maybe pronouns literally ARE too much for some people lol
glimseto Ask Lemmy•Other than money, what's something you would want an unlimited amount of?21·3 days agoWhy?? This is my answer as well. There’s just not enough time in the day to do all the things I want to do. There are so many things I haven’t even bothered trying because I know I don’t have the time to learn it well enough for it to be worthwhile.
I know my car repairs are DIYable but I don’t have the prerequisite knowledge so it will take me too long to be cost effective. If I didn’t have to sleep, I’ve got an extra 8 hours a day to learn.

glimseto Television@piefed.social•‘Friends’ Star Lisa Kudrow Says New Sitcoms are ‘Too Afraid’ to Make Jokes That Make People ‘Uncomfortable’: ‘I’m Not Buying It’English4·3 days agoThat rocks. Years ago I had an coworker from Iraq and we hit it off so every weekend we’d go to a new place (museum, history, etc) and try a new restaurant.
Unfortunately his wife was never able to integrate and became very depressed. They wound up moving back to Jordan and I haven’t been to a museum since. It’s nice to learn about stuff through someone else’s perspective, I would have never gotten into it alone
Why would I want an ambassador? I want Israel on the designated terrorists list

It’s much weirder that it’s an even 3/3 gender split
I wish it was just bait but people definitely think like this. Same type of person who tends to call things “problematic”
Before this comment, I thought my anecdote of “I had this a few years ago and decided to just let whatever it was kill me” was too bleak to post
