Why do people always say “ I don’t like jazz” as if it’s one monolithic genre lol.

galaxy_novato politics •Trump Slashed Science Funding. Now the U.S. Could Face a Costly Brain Drain.English3·5 days agoIt’s quite frustrating honestly. Being in the lab, having flexible hours, and solving problems that you often willingly spend your free time doing them are things I miss even if it’s sometimes a grind and the bureaucracy can be annoying. Now I deal with all that except the people I interact with are often not as intellectually oriented and it’s all about profit margins and speed even if I kind of like the job itself. Maybe that’s just the industry I’m in though.
galaxy_novato politics •Trump Slashed Science Funding. Now the U.S. Could Face a Costly Brain Drain.English13·5 days agolol some of us do. For the record I’m one of the people who elected for a different career because the country gives 0 shits about science. PhD stipends are laughable, I make 3-4x that as an entry level tech employee.
Thanks! Apologies for opening a duplicate issue / post.
Is there a way for someone to get mod control over this community so they can be banned?

galaxy_novato A Boring Dystopia•LA Olympics will be first to impose IOC's ban on trans athletes from women's sportsEnglish96·13 days agoI don’t think you actually read my comment fully or you would know that I wasn’t talking about trans athletes at all really. Respectfully read carefully before having a knee jerk reaction. Also for the record (although the I have {insert marginalized group here} friends card is stupid) one of my closest friends in college who was alsomy roommate was trans…
galaxy_novato Hardware•Windows PCs crash 3X as often as Macs, lag behind in security and lifespanEnglish2·13 days agoThis is funny but ironically I had maybe a few bad kernels for a bit because I was getting kernel panics all the time for a few weeks. My mac is still my most stable device, but also tbf I would hope that it is in comparison to my computer part legos (aka desktop pc).
galaxy_novato Cyberpunk 2077•Cyberpunk 2077 is a better role-playing game than The Witcher 3English73·13 days agoThe Witcher 3 story is 1 billion times more compelling and the world is 1 billion times better even with older tech. If the game had better gameplay it would be almost perfect (for me). Hence I have high hopes for the Witcher 4.
galaxy_novato A Boring Dystopia•LA Olympics will be first to impose IOC's ban on trans athletes from women's sportsEnglish236·13 days agoProbably will be downvoted into oblivion but I’m going to disagree with you. The trans argument is a separate one but having some sex separated sports absolutely makes sense. There are undeniable biological differences physically between biological males and females. Height and weight class would make 0 sense because bone and muscle density is still different, and distributed differently as an aggregate. I think most people who say this stuff don’t actually play sports.
I’ve watched them a long time and I’ve probably well ascended beyond most of their “tech tips” at some point although occasionally I do still pickup something by proxy of it being put on my radar. But aside that I’ve definitely noticed some videos feeling more and more corporate or overproduced for sure. There are many videos that are clearly “we needed the money to fund x expensive project here’s a sponsor we don’t like that much but have to talk about their product”. I think it’s kind of why there’s been some long time staff leave recently. I’m kind of hoping it’ll be a bit cyclic and some new blood will make it feel jankier again.

This is true although that’s what enforcing strict type checking and good linting is supposed to help with. I think it’s partially an issue that you can kinda just type what you think and not everyone thinks efficiently/ programmer-y
Edited for clarity
galaxy_novato Computer RPG Games•"Everyone is comparing us to Baldur's Gate 3 so there's no way to avoid it" - But Solasta 2 is different in some very important waysEnglish2·22 days agoYeah that’s fair, I definitely appreciate the way pathfinder allows you to have far more diverse characters within even the same class and you can do a lot more on your turns. I’ve played a lot of 5e and yeah it definitely gets a bit repetitive if you’re a minmaxxer or someone who grasps the game really well. I’ll have to look at the system for WoD just out of curiosity. I think it’s the sacrifice of appealing to as many players as possible. I’ve dmed enough new players that even 5e is really difficult for character creation.
The ensloppening of some of my favorite tools begins?

It’s obviously a joke to them.
