I strongly disagree with that. The American dream is that you get ahead through hard work, etc, but it’s not at the expense of others. It’s not winning the rat race. It’s creating something of value from your own hard labor. It’s carving a farm out of the wilderness, it’s not being under someone else’s thumb, it’s starting your own business and providing something of value.

Now I’m not saying this is always true, but the fantasied American Dream ™ isn’t about pulling down others, it’s about rising up yourself.

  • So many people here don’t really know what they’re talking about. Chip companies can’t cut corners on stability because of the amount of money that goes into everything around the chips is huge. If you think of a PC motherboard and you look at how many components are on that board now, imagine if one of the company’s cheaped out on a chip and didn’t bother testing it before sending it out and the only time they found out it was bad was when they finished making a board. The cost of finding, repairing and replacing those components far exceeds the pennies that they save by cheaping out.

The real answer is that their customers are a user of the chips and the cost of a bad part is massively more expensive than a tiny savings in manufacturing the chip.

The only place they cheap out on parts is in things that are standalone and dirt cheap such as an RFID chip. I’ve seen those get manufactured without test and only at the very end after they’ve been assembled to their antenna they then test and reject the ones that fail. They get away with it there only because the cost of the chip and antenna are so cheap.

Imagine Apple putting a sub-tier component in their phone and having to recall 10% of their phones because of it. It’s unheard of. The people who buy the chips are usually companies that use them and they have a very low threshold for bad components. While it’s true, some parts are binned for performance, they are never binned for quality.

Note - I’ve been involved in the test of semiconductors for the past 20+ years making load boards (package test) and probe cards (Wafer test) for many different IC manufacturers.

  • I go traveling with the sales guys sometimes, and we had Starbucks in between meetings so that we can sit down and do email for an hour and then go to the next meeting. I wouldn’t want to sit there all day.

I work from home and I never get to the point where I want to go out in public and do work. I do get to the point where I want to go on public, but I take a walk and get some sun and I don’t bring my laptop.

  • I hate this person. It makes me want to scream. One of the dumbest stupidest things about Windows is a fucking useless programs go on with it that haven’t been updated in 20 years. Please update them. You want to update notepad? Go look at Notepad+. Please please please update all the shitty little programs that exist around Windows that no one uses cause they’re so goddamn shitty.

Holy fuck update Windows programs. For the love of God update ALL the Windows programs. Make the goddamn search tool work. Make the goddamn voice to text work. Make the image viewer not suck. Please don’t listen to the people who are resistant to change. Leave an old shitty version on there just for them, but please please make Windows programs better because they suck right now!!

Republicans are typically the people against good public transportation or bike lanes on roads. Republicans tend to be the people who don’t travel outside the United States. Democrats tend to be in favor of these things and they are also the people who would be riding a bike around on vacation.

Imagine your typical red-neck conservative going to Europe on vacation. Hard to do? Now imagine them going on a bike tour. It’s fucking ridiculous.

The only advice that I can give is to force yourself to try. I’m a naturally introverted person but I pushed myself get outside my comfort zone again and again. When I asked my future wife out on a date, I didn’t think I could do it in person, so I asked her out over email. I figured she was out of my league (and she was)… but I told myself “it’s better to ask and get a ‘no’ than never ask and always wonder.” Be ready for the pain of rejection, but force yourself to do it anyway.

However I don’t know you and the mountains you face. They are likely different from mine and require a different path. Good luck finding your path and getting to the second part of the comment.

I remember being lonely, emotionally starved, and deeply depressed and dreaming of having someone to share my life with. Now my wife is sleeping next to me with my kids in their bedrooms. In a moment I’ll put my phone down and roll over and snuggle in next to her and grab her boobs.

This is and has been better than I ever dreamed.

  • Actually don’t have a problem with this. I think all countries should have one primary language that is used across the entire country and that everyone in the country knows the language.

No, I’m not saying you should suppress the native languages or do things like only allow that language to be used in government offices, but for schooling and general communication, I think it’s best if everyone in the country is using one language. That helps keep everyone linked culturally, which is a crucial part of having a unified country.

  • I don’t think your “double tap” comment is supported by facts. My 5 min searching to confirm or deny that appears to suggest that multiple (2 or 3) warheads hit the area very close to each other, basically at the same time. A double tap usually means a delay of 10-30 min to hit rescuers. I can’t find any evidence to support that.

This is horrific enough as it is and we don’t need to lie about it to make it worse. Let’s leave the fake news to the right wing media.

  • If what you’re talking about is military casualties, then it’s not unreasonable that a country cares more about their own than the enemy. But when civilian deaths are on the line too then it feels excessively narcissistic and selfish.

“Oh did we kill 300 school children?? … That’s not a big deal, but did you also hear that five us service members were killed? Let’s only focus on how sad it is for each service member!”

I hear you but I can’t relate to you. If I don’t like anyone in the show, I actually like I don’t want to watch it. I’ve yet to find a show or book or anything where that’s not true. I don’t have to like the person in their entirety, but if there aren’t at least some aspects of them that I enjoy then fuck em. I’ll go spend my time doing something else.

I honestly can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic, but I kind of agree with those statements. I just couldn’t get into breaking bad or better call Saul or BB. I each gave them a number of episodes to get there and I found it a slog. It hurts that I don’t like the characters and that makes me hate the time I"m spending with them.
