How are they preventing public release then?
Look it’s either skynet or it fucking isn’t.

They lock essential things (e.g. food, water, shelter, medical services, etc.) behind a paywall because they know it is not true that people do not always—or even usually—want money.
But people do need essentials to live, and if they’re the only ones who can give you money to get those, then they can order you to do what they want instead.
I was saying this would happen when I read the announcement. Israel is running the show here.
Surely you see the difference
Narrator: nobody saw the difference
It’s all just inequality dressed up as something else. People are miserable here because it’s a country by and for rich people which even the rich don’t enjoy in the end. Rich people exploit that sense of misery to give us…king-size diaper donny as president twice.
Uh no I would never think of that officer
But how many trees would the median driver have soberly slammed into with their son on average!?! Huh?!? Huh?!?!
/s (In case you need it)
The fact that you can legally drink at 21 has something to do with this phenomenon.
They did open the strait though, just to anyone who will pay a $2 million bribe in not USD.
It seems clear to me that cloud LLMs have the same scaling problems and demand concerns that cloud gaming did.
Oh well, maybe regular people will have to still run software locally after all. 🤷
I thought part of the point was to have a website work more as an application: one update to a piece of information results in that information being near instantly updated across the site.
Then I looked into the angular stuff the UI people were working on and yeah… something like 10 (costly) requests for the same exact fucking JSON. They were talking about doing caching on the frontend to optimize it. What are we even doing?!
Modern UI development is such fucking shit. I have no idea why they went with all of these heavyweight shit frameworks.
Oh my God you guys, I think this career conman might’ve *gasp* lied to us to get the power he wanted to do what he wanted. 😱
Who could’ve predicted this?!
Most people do not have a smartphone with that amount of RAM. But ultimately, yeah, eventually it’ll run on readily available hardware or it’ll go into a dustbin.
There’s already ollama and stuff. It’ll stick around.
Yeah if you can run them locally using a small board, that’ll last.
Effective altruism doesn’t deserve to be slandered like this.
Dude, effective altruism sucks. A movement is what it does, and what this movement does is spawn cults and give sociopaths cover for getting rich via any means possible.
So sure, Fuck AI (mostly) as it exists today but it won’t be long before it’s as ubiquitous as tablets and smartphones.
In order for it to be this ubiquitous it has to run locally or on commodity hardware IMO. The true lasting effects from this hype cycle are likely the capabilities that are being driven into smaller language models that don’t have out of control resource requirements.
Fucking Ed Zitron stated very loudly and very clearly for basically the last year that this was happening or would happen.
He “scooped” all of this by actually running the numbers, talking to sources, and not acting as a middle part of a human centipede for AI news and hype.
The problem is people gaming the system and stepping on peoples faces to keep all the capital for themselves.
Yeah but they’re also sociopaths that have bought into “effective altruism” and thus believe their becoming more rich and more powerful not only feels great for them, but it’s also a net good overall in a moral sense.
The problem overall IMO is sociopaths. They game every system. The only fix is legal and structural changes to eliminate — or at very least greatly lessen — their ability to do so.
Dude could actually nuke Iran and kill millions and dumb assholes online still wouldn’t concede that he is and was obviously the worse evil.
