That “caught eating last ice cream domestic betrayal” at the top really ties the whole thing together. Very necessary.

“How did we get into that war?”
“I’m sure it had something to do with the hijackers!”

EtnaAtsumeto Ask Lemmy•People who have been on Lemmy since the very initial reddit API debacle, or before even that, how much do you think it has changed?11·11 days agoFewer people marveling about Lemmy itself, which is fine.
There are a couple of people who are now a constant presence. For better or worse. Some of y’all need help that Lemmy can’t provide. I won’t name a name but if you have to ask…
EtnaAtsumeto Progressive Politics•[Video] US Department of Defense: "We negotiate with bombs".6·15 days agoI am reminded of the Marge Simpson picture:
“It’s true, but he shouldn’t say it.”
These were a cornerstone of my childhood, and I remember getting through Mattimeo all by myself, and feeling like I had really crossed a threshold in my reading development.
“Now I’m reading the big books!”
It was also the first and blessedly not the last time that I finished a book and had this almost sad feeling that it was over combined with the awestruck feeling of having just shared in a monumentally good story.
One other funny thing about the books is something I discovered much later in life when I was talking with a friend about them: The friend marveled at the fact that I read them as a child and did not grow up to be a furry. So there’s that.
Ish. They aren’t very deep but it’s not like they’re a waste of your time.
I read it a bit from time to time.

Those who get their kicks by pretending to be idiots, etc.
EtnaAtsumeto Showerthoughts•If creatures existed that were simultaneously as trainable and as powerful as pokemon, of course they'd be used to resolve every conflict.7·20 days agoPerhaps trainers who were fond of a particular type would all rally around one remarkably skilled figurehead. A leader, if you will.
They might, one supposes, form organizations in which they all trained together in specialized facilities for the promotion of their interests. What would they call such a training area? Well, to pull a word out at random, why not a gymnasium? Considering that facilities of that name are already used for training human bodies.
To continue down this road of totally arbitrary supposition, I’d imagine any particular region could support 8 of them. Not sure where I got that number, just pulling it out of nowhere.
EtnaAtsumeto Patient Gamers@sh.itjust.works•Weekly Recommendations Thread: What are you playing this week?5·20 days agoVery old indeed but I’ve been on Carrion Fields a lot lately, revisiting old haubts, and it’s still as fun as I recall. Uniquely for a MUD they even released on Steam with a client package and everything.
In the past I took characters very seriously and any time I died (let alone faced down the inevitable permadeath), it was emotionally crippling. This time around I’m mature enough to see the silly and just have fun with it.
EtnaAtsumeto Ask Lemmy•What is the legality of publishing lists of names of quests, characters etc. taken from video games on the web?4·21 days agoSome MUDs still really hate it when you post quest details online. Watch out, lads, the crusty dungeon crawling neckbeards are gonna getcha!
Holy clickbait title, Batman.
This is no more a “resurrection” than drawing a picture of someone is.
Man I’m still playing MUDs.
