This album is an obvious evolution of their sound. The prog-rock elements are going to take a little getting used to but may really shine after some more listens.
DoomAxeMto Death Metal•Burial Hordes - Purgation [Greece, 2023] [FFO: Dead Congregation, Incantation, Grave Miasma]English2·3 years agoSounds a lot like Dead Congregation, which makes sense seeing as they have the same guitarist.
While ads and sales are usually not allowed, I’m going to allow this post since Everlasting Spew is primarily a death metal label and it’s a pretty deep discount.
If you’re interested enough to make this post, you should start up a tech death community. Be the change that you wish to see.
DoomAxeMto Death Metal• Fossilization - Once Was God [Brazil- Sept. 2023] [FFO: Dead Congregation, Krypts, Spectral Voices]English1·3 years agoI don’t think they’ve confirmed anything, but they mentioned a new album and played a new song when I saw them live earlier this year.
DoomAxeto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Has anyone else been trying to break their reddit-era habit of downvoting?English15·3 years agoIf a post contains incorrect information that could be dangerous, you should be able to reply to it and also downvote it so that the incorrect information becomes less visible. For example, if someone said you should pinch your nose and lean your head back when you get a nosebleed. You should be able to correct them and still downvote to make the incorrect information less visible.
DoomAxeMto Death Metal• Fossilization - Once Was God [Brazil- Sept. 2023] [FFO: Dead Congregation, Krypts, Spectral Voices]English4·3 years agoThis really does sound much more like Dead Congregation than their other releases. Really looking forward to hearing the whole album along with Dead Congregation’s new one whenever they eventually release it.
Favorite full-lengths
VoidCeremony - Threads of Unknowing
Ascended Dead - Evenfall of the Apocalypse
Putrid Yell - Consuming Aberration
Astriferous - Pulsations from the Black Orb
Ulthar - Anthronomicon (black/death)
Majesties - Vast Reaches Unclaimed (melodic death)Favorite EPs
Hyperdontia - Deranged
Lunar Chamber - Shambhallic VibrationsIf you aren’t already familiar with them, check out Beyond from Germany. They definitely have a similar sound to Ascended Dead. Their guitarist went on to form Omegavortex after Beyond broke up. I’d recommend checking Omegavortex out too, although they lean a little more towards chaotic black metal than Beyond.
Some of my personal favorite modern bands similar to the Florida death metal style are Skeletal Remains, Suppression, Rude, Outre-Tombe, Astriferous, Malignant Altar, Miscreance, and Sijjin. Some of these also sound similar to Consuming Impulse era Pestilence.
Don’t forget about Supergiant’s first game, Bastion. It’s currently an absolute steal at 80% off.
Out of the Body has one of the best opening riffs in death metal.
I’ve been listening to a lot of Chilean death metal lately. Been listening to Putrid Yell, Rotten Tomb, Suppression, Inanna, and Unaussprechlichen Kulten.
DoomAxeMto Death Metal•Sijjin - Angel of the Eastern Gate [Germany, 2019] [FFO: Morbid Angel, Possessed, Sadistic Intent]English2·3 years agoThey took all the best parts of Necros Christos, sped it up, and eliminated all the extra interludes. I’m a huge fan of this band and am looking forward to their next release (whenever that is).
DoomAxeMto Death Metal•Becerus- Homo Homini Brutus [Italy - 2021] [FFO: Cannibal Corpse, Monstrosity, Sanguisugabogg (without the samples)]English2·3 years agoI like that their Bandcamp page advertises “BECERUS have absolutely NO LYRICS!” This is really some caveman death metal.
You missed a letter in the band name. It’s Allegaeon.
New Organon is pretty good. They’ve never released a bad album, but the trio of Twilight of the Idols, Down Among the Deadmen, and Traveller is peak The Lord Weird Slough Feg for me. I think after that, they started to lean a little more into hard rock and Thin Lizzy than I prefer.
The Lord Weird Slough Feg has quite a few top tier albums, but Traveller is my personal favorite.
I love the King Diamond influence on this album. I still think Ossuarium Silhouettes Unhallowed is their best, but sometimes I want a little more traditional heavy metal in my death/doom.
DoomAxeOPMto Death Metal•Outre-Tombe - Nécrovortex [Canada, 2018] [FFO: Entombed, Asphyx, Dismember]English2·3 years agoI like how each Outre-Tombe album feels like it pulls a little more influence from different bands without sounding like a carbon copy. Répurgation sounds like Pestilence, Nécrovortex sounds like Entombed, and Abysse mortifère sounds like Autopsy.

Blood Oath - Lost in an Eternal Silence
Ulthar - Anthronomicon
Sepulchral Curse - Abhorrent Dimensions
Disguised Malignance - Entering the Gateways
Majesties - Vast Reaches Unclaimed
