Given that I slept awfully and decided to just wake up early anyway to watch the F1 GP and the sunday morning sumo, I was not fully awake enough to have an actual relevant or coherent opinion unfortunately. Still, it was great to know that we’re back again for two weeks of sumo!
I’m definitely rooting hard for Aonishiki to make Yokuzuna, even if I think that he’ll need luck to make that, which maybe means he doesn’t fully deserve it. (I think that if he wins, he’ll again win with a 12-3 and win the deciders) In that respect he’s already lucky that Onosato lost his first match and some of the other people that can realistically beat him, already have a loss on day 1.
Hoshoryu won, but he’s still not looking like he’s a 100%. Kotozakura is looking very strong though, I honestly kind of dismissed him from my own list of contenders to win, but he looked great.
It was great to see Ura use some classic simple sumo to get a win for once. I hope he can get a real good record after the negative score he had last time that didn’t really reflect how close some of those matches were.
DV8to Fuck AI•Qobuz cracks down on AI-generated tracks, advocating for human music creation and curation1·1 month agoNot disputing it’s buggy for you. It’s not buggy for me though. Using it on my android phone, AAOS in the car, android TV, and two windows machines.
The only thing not working properly for me is the Yamaha Musicast implementation, and ofcourse their stupid refusal to let me choose my own language for the app.
DV8to Fuck AI•Qobuz cracks down on AI-generated tracks, advocating for human music creation and curation1·1 month agoAh, never really used folders but in retrospect it does sound like a cool feature.
Missing songs for me was like 1 to 2%, and usually relatively easy to solve by looking for the songs myself. Some songs were different versions, but that’s probably less than 1%.

DV8to Fuck AI•Qobuz cracks down on AI-generated tracks, advocating for human music creation and curation24·1 month agoI’m very happy with Qobuz. Switched over last year after 15 years of Spotify. The price is a little higher but it has more High quality recordings. Plus they give more money to artists per stream, and actively try to work against AI slop.
The biggest downside is that they don’t let you choose your language. (That they think everyone on Belgium speaks French is even worse since most people in Belgium actually speak Dutch)
DV8to World News@quokk.au•Brits detained in Iran receive 10-year prison sentence, family says2·2 months agoThese kinds of sham trials and convictions purely happen because the government of those people have arrested and convicted Iranian spies and/or assassins. They’ll only ever be released in exchange for those. Like what Iran did for https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asadollah_Asadi

DV8toSumo•SUMO: January 2026 tourney in Japan ends this weekend!!! (see this post for how to follow it)2·3 months agoI don’t think Kotezakura was ignoring the left side, it looked like he wanted to play his style adapted to Onosato. Also because despite his injury he will easily outclass you if you play your b-game. So in that sense Aonishki will have a hard time. I hope he wins, but I don’t expect it.
Happy to see Shishi getting appreciation. I admit I don’t enjoy watching him wrestling. He seems to be lacking in technique both in the pure sense, and in the sense of having the bare technical skill to use his strength and size. Like he’s uncomfortable with his own body.
To the point where if he wins, it seems like a fluke almost every time.
Now clearly my impression is wrong and flawed. You don’t get to his level by being lucky. But it’s still so awkward to see him wrestle.
Could be his shoulder for sure. But hearing what his stable master thinks is the appropriate way to handle injuries, which is pretend it’s not real, I would not be shocked there’s more going wrong than his shoulder.
I too hope, he can rest, but looking at the first half of this tournament, I think he shouldn’t have even started.
Yeah, his shoulder was what I thought first too. I can for sure be very wrong. It’s just the touch on the tawara that makes me think he actually has more injuries than the shoulder.
We’re discussing day 8, so obviously I hope you’re not reading without having watched.
It looked like he started looking like something was wrong straight off the tachiai. Couldn’t really see anything clamping his arms or shoulders, do I guess the impact might have done something. It looked like touching the tawara, made it even more painful, so I’m going to guess it’s something in his lower body.
The developer clearly interacts with some of the people doing live commentary streams. :-)
Personally I actually do like the news aggregation.
I love sumostats. It really is a fantastically made website, both to follow live, and to quickly catch up.
Not a fan of most LLM implementation since it usually is utterly unnecessary and doesn’t really solve any actual problems. But I have to admit that the implementation here seems well thought out and actually adds some value.
The new regulations are probably his best shot for that.
Beautiful kinboshi by Yoshinofuji as well. Crazy that this is his first win as well for this basho. Seeing the replay does make it seem that Hoshoryu is feeling his knee injury. In slow mo you can see his knee “twang” in a way that isn’t going to feel good if it’s already injured. Than the slide down on that leg too makes me think I wouldn’t be surprised if he pulls out if he gets another loss.
I was stealth watching at work and I even I could see that while only having an image on my phone. It’s crazy how much he seems to get favourable judge calls whenever it needs to be made. It’s annoying because he doesn’t need it. He’s clearly a true Yokozuna.
Edit: saw a rematch just now and you could even make the argument that Onosato was pulling Ura’s hair at one point during the first match. Crazy reffing there.
Onosota just withdrew apparently.
