Honestly outside of the top handful in both countries I’d say yes. I take this from my own experiences in all three as well as what colleagues tell me. US universities have problems but producing good learners isn’t one. I went to a state school and I think it was better than similarly private schools.

ComradeMiaoOPto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Stuck between living in America, China, or Japan... Which would you choose?English2·9 days agoYeah… you’re right, I really would love a forever home though. I feel I’ve moved too many times and countries and its exhausting, especially with pets.
ComradeMiaoOPto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Stuck between living in America, China, or Japan... Which would you choose?English4·9 days agoI prefer big cities or pure countryside. In the US I mostly have friends through work. In Japan I find it difficult to make random friends outside of work too… less my age at work as well.
Agree with you that big Japanese cities are less physically isolating but people can be somewhat cold compared to the other two.
ComradeMiaoOPto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Stuck between living in America, China, or Japan... Which would you choose?English11·9 days agoI agree with you. Also financially it’s getting worse in all three countries. US is certainly doing the best financially. I was shocked by how hard covid continues to hit China. Buildings being built in Chengdu in 2019 are just left empty downtown now. Japan has worsening yen and rising costs.
For the healthcare side, insurance in Japan has been around 30$ per month and every medical cost for children is free. In the US I was paying 6-700$ a month and still paying 20-35% per visit.
ComradeMiaoOPto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Stuck between living in America, China, or Japan... Which would you choose?English44·9 days agoI love China and have devoted much of my life and career to China. Don’t come at me with stereotypical .ml presumptions.
ComradeMiaoOPto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Stuck between living in America, China, or Japan... Which would you choose?English2·9 days agoYeah its worked in the past for me but its getting more difficult I find. There’s something called 机场 but I couldn’t figure them out. You’re right it’s possible but frustrating.
What’s the 11/9 planes?

ComradeMiaoOPto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Stuck between living in America, China, or Japan... Which would you choose?English210·10 days agoI think you haven’t been to a real ethnostate and felt the difference. Racism in America is no where close to in East Asia sadly.
ComradeMiaoOPto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Stuck between living in America, China, or Japan... Which would you choose?English12·10 days agoThis is a really good approach. Thank you!
I will go through it with your take :)

That’s kind of my own feeling… Japan has some difficulties but its safer than the states…
ComradeMiaoOPto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Stuck between living in America, China, or Japan... Which would you choose?English22·10 days agoThat’s what I’m learning towards but I don’t love the bad pay, small houses, trump-like prime minister, and forever not fitting in… but those can be viewed as minor to US or China critiques.
ComradeMiaoOPto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Stuck between living in America, China, or Japan... Which would you choose?English15·10 days agoThen I think you haven’t studied in other countries before. Having studied/conducted research in China, Japan, Malaysia, Taiwan, and Nepal… they all are pretty rough in comparison.
ComradeMiaoOPto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Stuck between living in America, China, or Japan... Which would you choose?English58·11 days agoThe reality that US universities are better than most I’ve worked and studied in. Chinese and Japanese ones are barely comparable.
ComradeMiaoOPto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Stuck between living in America, China, or Japan... Which would you choose?English312·11 days agoJust responded to that… your comment isn’t adding anything
Idk what this means. It cost 30$ in Japan 6-700$ in USA. How much I use it doesn’t change the monthly bill. Co-pay plus percentage in the US in standard. Really unsure what you mean.
In Japan it does charge 30% for adults so I bet some horrible sickness would be expensive.
Good question. I’ll think on that
