ICS sync is a compatibility workaround from 1998. Google Calendar works natively on Android without any third party apps. The fact that syncing an iCal file requires a Fossify workaround on Android is a problem Apple created on purpose to lock users into their ecosystem.
Oh no are you one of the proprietary Android guys? I dont use Google apps, Google Calendar might well support ICS links natively but I dont use that malware XD
But yes it is odd that ICS is read only. CalDAV is better.

No, the calendar app has no sync itself. I use ICSx5 now and add that import from the app
