Ive always hated box mac and cheese. I can remember the first time I had it because of the sense of betrayal. How could something I love be so foul?

Canadian here - It’s like our national dish. NOBODY calls it “mac and cheese” up here. Don’t think of it as mac and cheese. don’t compare it to mac and cheese. It’s its own thing that occupies a completely different niche and scratches its own itch. Once you realize it’s not meant to compare with real mac and cheese the healing can begin.

Take a Kirkland beef hot dog and finely slice it into half moons, cook them in a saucepan until it is crispy, and then deglaze with milk and add the cheese powder, before mixing in the cooked noodles. Optionally slather it with ketchup and/or sriracha.

Edit: Also president’s choice (a no-name brand here in Canada) is objectively better than every other boxed mac and cheese product in existence (I have done blind taste tests) - Galen Weston is still a prick though

I don’t know, I tried Kraft dinner again recently after not having had it since I was a kid and it was terrible and not at all what I remembered. The noodles had the wrong consistency, the cheese sauce wasn’t even cheesy, and the whole thing had a weird chemical flavor. The presidents choice white cheddar shells are pretty good, but the best boxed mac and cheese are the Matheson ones by the guy from The Bear.

That’s all the bacon I put on it. There’s about three times that much bacon in it. Sometimes you save a little bit of what you added to sprinkle on top so it makes a better presentation.

Okay that’s fair. Although personally I prefer it all on top because it keeps it crunchy. Crunchy bacon is always better than non-crunchy bacon to me.

My wife agree. She had her portion of bacon in cut and on the side.

But she also didn’t want any of the other extras. She is a boxed mac purist. Though occasionally she wants some curry powder.
