Springsteen gave himself massive lib street cred with his Minneapolis protest song even though it’s shitty song. So now not only is his name a dog whistle for the right but a rallying cry for the libs. So for me the cherry on top is that Simon was triggered by Trump attacking the Most Holy Saint and Troubadour of Liberalism.

I bet Simon would never admit that but he wouldn’t have posted such drivel if Trump had attacked some second-tier lib troubadour or band. Who can get energized by a rallying cry that’s hard to recognize?

I just had a funny mental image. Springsteen is on stage with his band. He make a big “surprise” announcement that really that at all. The priciest PR firms in America have been creating a “suspense” campaign on his behalf.

“So… I’m running for president.” The crowd roars. “And are you ready for a bigger surprise?” More roaring.

Obama - a special guest - appears out of nowhere. Not only that - he has a Telecaster. It’s painted with the American flag. “Hey, everybody. How ya doin’?” More roaring.

“So you gonna help out on this song, Mr. President?”

“I’m gonna try. I’m gonna try to remember the chords you taught me.”

“You’ll do great, Mr. President.” Neon white smile.

“I’ll do my best, Mr. Future President.” Even whiter neon white smile.

And the drumbeats of Born to Run start…

      -–

Edit. My stream of consciousness worked pretty well but I used “surprise” too many times.

Simon has quote posted at least twice. I wonder if he’s doing it just to shit on people or he’s actually annoyed. Simon is pretending it’s not civility shit but it’s exactly that. And the Bluesky liberal bubble is a trip.

To make this example sane - I changed the quote-post order so Simon replies here.

Were you around for Bush II’s handling of 9-11? The embarrassment’s been around for a LONG time.

What part of “utterly” and “to the core” eluded? How did the entire preamble about American citizenship ALWAYS being a flawed, compromised struggle not land? This current misrule is geometrically worse. Can we say so without folks rushing to assert an earlier awareness than the rest of us?

A lib whine and Simon’s reply.

They need to get their seat on the “I hated America before it was cool” bus before it fills up.

      Just so.

“I was fine with supporting America’s continuous history of genocide, torture, slavery, and horrific crimes because it was a net benefit to me personally, but now there is the possibility of social consequences and that’s not fair”. absolutely disgusting

Somebody not online might think Simon is a lefty or at least leftish. But that’s so far from the reality. It’s funny to me that with the exception of the extreme obnoxiousness - Simon is such a bog standard liberal who is entirely hostile to anybody to the left of him.

“I was intentionally avoiding awareness of my complicity and/or actively shitting on people trying to tell me this stuff for decades, but now my history of being perched on top of a mountain of child skulls somehow reflects poorly on me?”
